Just read an article from basketball insiders that Isaiah is a mentor for Chris. They workout together when he is on their campus is he is giving him advice. Just thought I would throw that out there...
Thomas taught Chriss how to rebound.  :D

"People always say take a risk in the draft. Take a risk on Marquese Chriss ... You've got a super talented young big man with a ton of potential. He's supposed to go 8-15, and you've got this draft where after 1-2, there's a big bunch of question marks, a lot of guys with low ceilings. Then you've got a Boston team that doesn't have a lot of needs and is probably not going to get much next year from this pick regardless of who they take. If you're Boston, you need a star, you've got a chance to grab a star. The downside of not drafting a star is really low. Maybe swing for the fences right away because then you have picks at the end of the draft where you can draft a Denzel Valentine or someone who will be a safe rotation player."

I'd be interested to know more about the Thomas <> Chriss relationship. Does anybody have further deets there?

I read that Thomas is advising him and they workout together when he is in town.

That shouldn't play a factor in us drafting Chriss. You draft the best player available and who you think will be a star and has the most talent. Chriss is none of those things and Danny should see him as none of those things.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Impressive as this post is, I bet Ainge might value Thomas' perspective on Chriss above yours.

I think Ainge likes to do favors for his friends and pump up the tires of certain prospects prospects connected to those that he's close with, without ever actually having any interest in taking them. The main example IMO was when we started showing up in rumors for trading up to take Austin Rivers in the 2012 draft. That kind of hype could have been what helped push NOLA over the top to take him at 10.

For Ainge's effort he get's a free smoke screen, helping to keep his actual motives a secret. Our interest in Chriss could be directly tied to Ainge helping the stock of one of Isaiah's proteges.

I like Chriss, If we do take him I would hope that we'd trade back to Denver since I dont think there's much risk of Phoenix, Minnesotta or NOLA taking him. Maybe try to swipe Nurkic from them since Jokic has presumably taken his spot in Denver's center rotation.

I don't like Chriss from what I've seen of him in videos.

Poor fundamentals.  Terrible defensive rebounder.  Lacks polish on his finishing inside.  Seems to get by mostly on athleticism.

Would much rather select Poeltl or Davis if we're taking big men.

I'm sure he would.

What I'm trying to say is, the fact that they're "buddy-buddy" shouldn't play a role in taking him. So, if Danny is going to use Isaiah's perspective as a factor in choosing Chriss, then he isn't doing his job correctly.

I think Poeltl is going to be a good pro.

I see, I thought the team was named New Orleans Pelicans? Besides is there another New Orleans NBA team apart from the one in Louisiana?

To the contrary, if Isaiah has a developed relationship with Chriss, Ainge would be neglecting his job if he didn't discuss it with his player.

New Orleans is often referred to fondly as NOLA. It's not a basketball thing -- just a cultural one. But we digress....

Yes. The track record for the "raw athletic freak without refined skills or feel for the game" may be worse than the record for the "skilled Euro big who needs toughness," and yet we've spent about 10,000 more posts worrying about the risks associated with the latter type of player.

Chriss is not worth #3 pick to me.  But I'd be ok with him in the 8-12 range.  I'd also like Deyonta Davis more because he shows more qualities of a imposing rim protector and is still pretty athletic as well with a massive 7-3 wingspan.
