Jodie Meeks?

Hield (Senior, 22 years old)
25 ppg 50%fg 45%3fg 88%ft 6rpg 2 apg 1 spg 3 topg
9 3 point attempts per game
5 ft attempts per game
TS% 66%

Meeks (Junior, 22 years old)
24ppg 46%fg 40%3fg 90%ft 3rpg 2 apg1 spg 3topg
8 3 point attempts per game
7 ft attempts per game
TS% 63%

I think Hield projects to be a slightly better defender and can add more to a team in the rebounding department, but, seriously?

I've heard awesome things about Hield's work ethic, but he projects to be a spot up shooter in the NBA, and that's it. He won't be able to drive. He won't be able to get to the FT line (worst FT rate than Meeks). He isn't a great defender.

I like him and would love to have him with the 16th pick (Reddick was drafted 11th), but 3rd is way too early for him. I don't think he would even start over Bradley at his best.

Anyone else see the comparison?

Morrow is a fair comp for Hield, mind you morrow has produced solid offensive numbers when he gets minutes. As a starting SG for the nets he averaged 13ppg. I think Hield is a slightly better defender and better off the dribble. This should allow him to average a JJ like 15ppg as a starter.

Morrow can't stay on the court because of his defense. Meeks is respectable on defense. That's why I like Meeks better.

looking at him, he reminds me of pierce.
i haven't actually seen hield play though - just a highlight video i watched.

but he has a similar big smile, similar body type. game seems somewhat similar. shooter, not super athletic but can drive too and take contact. seems to have a laid back and mature persona like paul.

if we draft him, i'd be a bit worried he couldn't live up to this comparison though.

Steph Curry (Junior, 21 years old)
25.3 PPG, 50% FG 45% 3FG 90% FT, 5.5 RPG, 6.7 APG,2 SPG, 3 TOs
11 3 point attempts per game
5 Ft attempts per game
62% TS%

Steph was even worse with his 3pt attempts at 11 per game although he have a more better passing game. Steph was also projected as a spot up shooter. And his defense was nothing to rave about either. Just saying.

I hear your points, but Steph was a passer too. Hield really isn't. Steph was always going to be a scoring guard who could pass.

The difference between almost 7 assists per game and 2 is pretty huge as far as play style goes.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Klay Thompson, James Harden?

Meeks didn't put a team on his back and take them to the final four.

You are wrong about Hield's offensive versatility. He can drive and finish with both hands. He can split defenders and punish defenders who overplay him on the perimeter.
To call him just a spot up shooter is not giving him any credit.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

He could drive as a college senior against underclassmen. He has both hands on drive. I'm not saying he will never drive in the pros, but he won't get a lot of points there, and he won't be as effective as in college.

If you watch Meeks in the pros, you see that he attacks closeouts and cuts backdoor to get layups too.

Hey, we just have to agree to disagree :)

I just think that like Klay and Steph, the spacing in the NBA will give him even more room when defenders come out try to swarm him and stop the 3 point shot.
He'll drag help defenders away from their man and then find an open shooter.
To me he's just very similar to James Harden.

  • Celtic's only raise championship Banners
Instead of drafting Hield with our 3rd pick:
Sign Allen Crabbe
Trade 3rd pick 4 Okafor
Trade AB and IT
4
Jabari and Henson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWGG0UXX-ZQ

shows Jabari's athleticism in a game^^

Smart
Crabbe
Jabari- he will hit the 3 eventually, green light from 3,
Okafor- same as Jabari, except needs to get jumper 15ft and in, better shape
Henson- He's a late blooming Rudy gobert

This team's stock/trade value would go through the roof after a season. Okafor and jabari will have a much better jumper, and when that happens they will be worth a lot.
