Everyone is focused on the #3 slot, but I'm really excited about that Mavs pick too. Here's my ranking of viable 16th picks; it is likely that at least one of these guys (especially Zizic) will be available.

1. Furkan Korkmaz. Korkmaz is badly, badly underrated.  He's an elite shooter with no significant weaknesses on offense. He can shoot efficiently off the bounce and on the move (2014-2016: 72/168 from 3 in 1114 minutes). He has ideal height for a SG (6'7), NBA athleticism, excellent feel for the game, and good enough ballhandling + playmaking that he could play some minutes at PG in the future.

2. Ante Zizic. Zizic has been one of the most productive players in the Adriatic League, despite being just 19 years old. He has been a prolific and extremely efficient scorer, and he has also dominated the boards and collected a solid block rate. His production compares favorably with Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic, who have both managed to translate Adriatic league production into NBA success.

3. Deyonta Davis. While Davis probably won't last this long, he would be an awesome pick if he does. He's essentially a 6'10 version of Jordan Mickey.

4. Denzel Valentine. I actually like Valentine more than fellow senior Hield, as Valentine has elite feel for the game to go along with his outstanding shooting. This is demonstrated by Valentine's staggering 45.8AST% compared with only a 14.8TOV% (Hield: 12.7%, 14.0%).

Sorry to be master of the obvious, but I'd draft the BPA.  Somebody who should be a lottery pick will slip out of the lotto and Danny should be waiting there with a catcher's mitt.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Maker, for sure. I love his attitude, athleticism, length, and skill set. He is going to will his way into being a very effective player. Maker doesn't suck.

I love his attutude, athleticism and length, too. But his skill set?

At this point I do think Maker is a 1st round prospect, and he'd be a defensible selection at #22. Guys with his physical gifts often just need time to figure it out. But right now, Maker is very bad at basketball, so I can't get too excited about him at #16.

Yeah, I want a Skal or a Maker for this pick. If we keep either of the later picks, they should be home run swings. We've already got enough good role players with limited ceilings. Try your hardest to find the "Giannis" of this draft in that range, and I think Maker is an excellent choice for that pick.

not a bad selection of players.  my take:
1. Korkmaz -- interesting player but from what I've read, he'll need time to develop and may be better off as a draft and stash candidate for 1-2 years.  I don't think he'll be there at 16
2. Zizic - another player that sounds like a solid candidate however he seems like someone who'll still be there at 23.  would rather wait and use that pick on him
3. Davis - haven't read much about him other than he's tall and supposedly athletic.  seems like a decent pickup but ideally we'd get someone with either more upside or more offensively gifted.
4. Valentine - this is the pick that seems like one of the 2 best options.  according to everything I've read about him he's as versatile as Evan Turner but with a better shot.  Would be pretty happy if we got him but I think he'll be gone a few spots sooner.

5. Skal -- this is the general area I think he'll slide to and who I consider to be the other 'best' option possibly available at this point.  with #3 already in our pocket, I'd think this is a solid spot to take a riskier pick and Skal could be someone who pays off has a high reward player.  he's the guy that made this look like a 3-player deep draft before the college season started.
6. Maker - another high risk/high reward type of player but he's someone else I would anticipate being around at pick #23 if not still sitting there for picks 31 or even 35.  Would snag him with 31 if he's there.

I also like the fact Brad recruited Valentine for Butler, legit size for a SG. Can shoot the ball

this is why it'd be wise to wait until the second round to grab him.  Maybe someone like Cle or GSW considers him as an acceptable person to give a guaranteed deal to with the time to wait for him to pan out but I think the C's would do well to gamble that he's there at 31.   Consider the heat James Young is taking for not developing in 2 years regardless of his age.  Maker could very well have a similar story line 2 years out.  would rather not commit guaranteed money to that type of player.

Valentine all the way. And I'd happily trade up for him as well. His combination of legit wing size, perimeter marksmanship, rebounding, transition floor generalship and secondary playmaking is completely unique and perfectly suited to our team.

Yes he's a senior, but his progression to dominance was much less about physical maturity than adding a new and translatable skill. Was a plus rebounder, passer and secondary facilitator from day 1, and then he did something that other similar prospect have never been able to do - progress from a decent spot-up J (e.g. Solomon Hill) to a near-elite mad bomber.

The defensive question marks around him are concerning, but his lateral quickness was excellent at the combine and he's got size. I don't think he'll be a major liability on that end.

Overall, the guy I'm most bullish on as a player outside of the top 5 or 6.

Sabonis, Zizic, Davis, perhaps Valentine.

The answer to this question is whoever slips. Valentine, Poeltl, Chriss, Skal, Davis and Ellenson should all be gone, but if any of them are there at 16 we should pick them.

If none of those guys slip I like Taurean Prince because he can play the 3 and the 4 and other than Crowder we have no one on the team that can play both positions. He probably tops out as a 3 and d guy but at #16 that's fine. Luwawu, Baldwin and Sabonis would all be acceptable picks too.

My hope is they trade up to grab one of the guys I listed in the first paragraph.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
