Ford: C's tempted by Hield

If we pick at 3, I honestly would be fine with any of the options. I prefer Bender to Murray and Murray to Buddy, but if we draft Buddy I'll be very excited.

I don't see much of a talent gap between 3-6 and Ford mentioned the 3 guys I would want among that 3-6 group (Dunn isn't a good fit here imo). Honestly if we get the third pick I wouldn't be upset if we traded back to 5-6 (presumably so we can get the Mavs pick into the top 12).

Id prefer Murray but I can understand Hield being tempting too. As long as bender is not tempting, I'm cool with it.

Murray and Hield make the most sense if the Celts fall outside the top 2.

This team needs guys who can create and make shots, especially from the perimeter.

Drafting one of them would mean that one of the guards -- probably Rozier or Bradley -- should be traded. But that'll probably happen anyway, if Danny can make deals happen like he wants to do.


Bender might be able to shoot and contribute one day, but it's hard to say what his floor and ceiling truly are.  Plus, he is probably 2-3 years away from being any good.  The Celts will want to turn that pick into somebody who can provide value right away, whether that's Murray or Hield, or trading the pick for Butler or Okafor.

Not a chance in heck. He's going to get mauled on the boards as a rookie. If he ever reaches his potential, he'll need a few years to gain the necessary strength and footwork skills to not be a liability on the glass.

I am gaining interest in Hield. Not overly sold on most of top 10. Hield at least should be a JJ Redick level player and maybe a bit more. Seems a safe choice.

Murray I am thinking will be a shorter version of Mike Miller.

I could see either or both of them becoming a player somewhere along the spectrum of Marcus Thornton / Jerryd Bayless / Eric Gordon / C.J. McCollum.  Maybe an outside chance of becoming somebody like Michael Redd?

Mike Miller isn't necessarily a BAD comparison, if Murray or Hield could sustain a peak level of performance similar to Miller only for longer than the handful of seasons Miller managed.

By today's standards Hield really isn't an undersized guard. 6'5 215 with solid length is a good sized guard. Looking around the league the 6'6 + SG is becoming rare.

I'm not sold on Hield, though I won't close the door on him either, but I think his floor is taller Jimmer Fredette and JJ Reddick is more like his most probable outcome.
