Most people would deem the fall of our pick to 5 as disastrous and one of the worst case scenarios of the lottery, but from a drafting standpoint I think it may be better for us because of the lack of depth of top tier talent. Say we land 3, let's be honest the difference between 3 and 5 is not that great. What we can grab Dragan Bender and Jamaal Murray? I love Murray, but the difference between him and Bender and players like Ellenson, Peoltl, and Hield is not that great. And the Bender hype is ridiculous and unfounded so it keeps us from feeling like we need to reach on him.
My ideal draft scenario if we keep the pick in the top 5 is draft Jakob Peoltl at 5 and then we send 16, 23, 31, and 35 to go up and grab Henry Ellenson. Kinda hesitant to go with an all white front court, but Cleveland did it last year with Mozgov and Love and did pretty well so I don't see why not. Both player are very good prospects that are very skilled big men that can face up, work on the block, pass, score, and have the quickness and length needed to become good defenders in the NBA. Eliminate what would be our rookie problem and add some great prospects to our front line.
PG: Isaiah Thomas
SG: Avery Bradley
SF: Jae Crowder
PF: Henry Ellenson
C: Jakob Peoltl
We can add a guard next year in a very deep and skilled draft after we get a better idea of how much better Bradley, Thomas, and Smart can become and after we see Rozier with some more NBA polish. The Nets also may be even worse next year so we could end up with a legitimate top 2 pick in a much better draft.
