This draft will undoubtedly be one of the toughest tests for Danny and his crew. There are 1000’s of possible variables to consider, e.g., all the Celtic’s picks, the draft order, the players each team decides to select, offensive stats, defensive stats , physical stats, intangibles, videos, scouting reports, the 8 picks, players other teams might want to trade for, teams calling in, Danny calling out, possible free agents coming, free agents possibly leaving, salary considerations, players injury history status, team needs, ownership concerns, salary cap, etc., etc.

During the draft days Danny has to keep all these considerations/evaluations in his head (or computer/chart) and somehow come up with the best decision(s) he can. Then, he has to repeat this process again during free agent dealings a week later.

In my opinion there are too many parameters to consider for Danny just to play his hunches and/or make spontaneous decisions. Danny will have to put himself and his crew into overdrive once the lottery order is settled. How they’ll do it, I doubt we’ll ever know.

Obviously, he and his scouts have been working hard evaluating talent. But, will that be enough?
I’m hoping he will not only have list of players he wants and/or fits the teams needs, but also have a list of deals he would accept, reject or propose. That way come draft night he won’t be desperately clinging to a hope and a prayer. Or, be caught by surprise with a last second proposal. He’ll know beforehand what is acceptable or not. I know his crew will be prepared, but this off-season they’ll have to be over-prepared.

My feeling is that with so many variables the probability of screwing up is much higher because there are so many assets on the table. And, every astute GM is looking to get rid of trash and pick up gold. This year's decisions may prove to be Danny's ultimate test as a GM.

Danny is ready and will do well for this team.

He's proven that to me in 2007-08.

Next few years will prove very fruitful for our C's - I truly believe that.

i believe ainge does exactly what you are hoping he will do - prepare for multiple scencarios.

one case in point was when ainge trying to trade last draft with michael jordan's carolina team. a key reason carolina did not bite on the trade, i read, was that they had not planned for the possibility of moving down in the draft and picking up assets to do so.

so when ainge gave them his offer, they had only a few minutes to decide. since they had not done their research/preparation they turned the offer down.

ainge is prepared for a lot of scenarios and he seems to be quite good at guessing at the possible moves by other GMs in the draft.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Celtics get the 6 pick.
On draft night, They take Dunn a Point Guard.

Stand pat. No trades, except they buy an additional 2nd round pick.

Draft guards in each position.

Claim at the press conference that they got all the players they wanted.

The other GM's asking price was too high.

That this is all about building through assets.

Meanwhile they talk about the steal of the 2014 draft: James Young's potential in few years.

Durant stays in OKC.

They re-sign Sullinger to max deal, when they  hear he as a "new trainer" and a weight loss plan.

And sign free agent: Zaza Pachulia as their rim protector.

Interesting post TP

Makes me wonder...what if the other GM's don't want to deal with Danny and/or make ridiculous offers for the picks.  Might Danny keep them with the exception of some second rounders which he might trade for future 2nd rounders?

I have faith in Danny Ainge as GM. I just hope the lottery doesn't screw Boston again and they get the 3rd pick.
