So let's assume Danny makes a trade this summer using only the lottery pick and not giving up the future 17 swap and 18 unprotected picks. I would hope he's not going to give those up and I'm sure he's going to keep those assets close to his chest for next year. There are going to be some pretty good prospects next year as well. If Brooklyn falls off the planet for the next three years the Boston Celtics could be in lottery talks for the next few years. Not a bad position to be in. There are a few names that could be drafted if he goes that route.

Miles Bridges SF/PF
Johnathan Isaac
Jason Tatum F
Josh Jackson SG/SF
Harry Giles PF
Lonzo Ball
Ray Smith

One of these guys will be everyone's target come next years draft. If I missed anyone please add them to the list. I really can't see giving up all of Brooklyn's 1st round picks for Butler or Cousins. Its possible we could just build through the draft and free agency instead of giving up a kings ransom to win now. Why not build a beast and give Lebron time to get old so we can run the NBA for the next 10 years like San Antonio did. Thoughts ?

Thon Maker is in this year's draft and from everything I read will be a late 1st round pick.

Yeah I forgot that he entered this year. He would of been smart to stay in college and enter next year. I will fix that.

If Ainge goes this route, as long as at least one of the players has an impact half as big as your font, the Celtics will be set for the next decade.

One of the ways DA could drop the ball is if he used his assets (especially the Brooklyn ones) in a way similar to what the Nets did giving them up for two once great players past their prime (apologies Truth and KG). I doubt he would make that mistake, while some fans are impatient to 'win now', DA won't be tempted to give it all up for a lesser player. He will likely give up a lot for his biggest targets.

This is definitely the fear. Any deal should be for a star with a career ahead of him. That's hard to find, though. It might be smarter to just try to consolodate the roster we have now but keep the future picks and grow guys at home.
