Boston clearly needs to consolidate picks.  No way it drafts 8 players.  Even after consolidation I think at least a couple of players will be draft and stash players. 

I absolutely expect Boston to try and package the 2nd round picks to move up in the 1st round.  You know something like 16, 23, 35, and maybe a later 2nd for 10.  Or something like that.  Maybe trade 31 and a future 2nd for a future highly protected 1st (if a team really wants a guy available at 31).  Things like that.  No way Boston drafts 8 players, just can't see it happening.

Last year the most that was paid for a pick was $1.5 million, when the Knicks purchased the No. 35 draft pick from Philadelphia to select Willy Hernangomez, and Portland acquired the rights to Daniel Diez (No. 54 from Utah). The Knicks also paid Indiana $1.5 million for the draft pick they used to select Louis Labeyrie at No. 57. The most ever paid for a second-round pick is $3 million, which Oklahoma City paid Atlanta to acquire 31st overall pick Tibor Pleiss in 2010.

I almost think you're better off drafting 8 guys and then run them through training camp and summer league and see who sticks.   The draft is such a crapshoot that I think your odds of getting one good player is better with 5 second round picks than trading them up for one mid first.

Draftees can be traded 30 days after they ink their first contracts. Showcase them in summer league play, and trade them for future 2nds before training camp.

Trade early 2nd for a future 1st?  I'd do that all day long.

And think about it, teams that are likely to finish in the playoffs, this is attractive for them, since they don't have to put hardly any guaranteed money into paying a 2nd round pick, and can still sign them to longer cost controlled contracts.  If that 2nd round player even turns into a rotation player, that's a huge value deal.

It's possible that the Celtics cannot take any money back in draft night trades after receiving cash in deals for Perry Jones and Zoran Dragic.
