Brian Geltzeiler: Also hearing that the Grizzlies are going offer Conley whatever necessary to insure that they retain him

There is no way Conley is a max player , if he stays this Grizzlies team will be at best another 2nd round exit .

Looking better and better for that Grizlies pick down the road .

Good news for our BRK swap next year, too, since you know the Nets would LOVE to add Conley.

Rightly so. One of the top PGs in the league.

Hmmm. Do they have cap room to add anybody other than Conley? I really don't see them as anything other than a middling playoff team that has a ceiling of the 2nd round but is most likely first round fodder.

Yeah, assuming they don't pick up Stephenson's option, they'll have about $25 million in cap room even after accounting for Conley's cap hold.  If they can convince someone to sign there, they've got the money to pay a major free agent.

Hmmm. I don't see any of the tier 1 guys signing there for sure, possibly not even tier 2 guys. Maybe Derozan? Deng and Barnes are two other guys they should probably chase, though I don't see either of them ultimately making them a contender.

Grizzlies are pretty close to the Hawks situation, though given Conley is younger than Horford, it makes a lot more sense for the Grizzlies to keep him.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Interesting. I have heard this sentiment before, but I don't look at Conley like he is anything more than an average starting point guard. Where would he fall in your rankings?

He's absolutely a max player in today's financial climate.

I'd be shocked if Conley isn't choosing between multiple max offers this offseason.

Among point guards he is 17th in scoring, 15th in assists, 21st in steals, lower than 20th in fg%, and 15th in 3%.

He is 6th in rpm, but only 14th in wins added.

To me, he looks in the Jeff Teague, Jordan Clarkson, Reggie Jackson range, which in this bloated cap era is probably around 15-18 million. I can't see giving him a max contract.

Probably 6th or 7th.

Got the main guys at the top = Steph Curry, Westbrook, CP3
Then John Wall and Damian Lillard.
Kyle Lowry had a great season. He deserves to be ahead of Conley for now.

Then Conley.

After Conley, I have Kyrie Irving. Jeff Teague.

------------------------------

I think Conley rates as one of the best defensive PGs in the league. He is also one of the best at organizing and running an offense. A good scorer who can drive and shoot. A really good playmaker whose assist numbers are probably lower in Memphis' offense than they would be elsewhere. And a solid rebounder.

A very well-rounded PG. No real weaknesses. Someone who is rock-solid across the board and very good at a few things (defense, floor general). These qualities also make Conley an easy player to fit alongside almost anyone. A very good teammate. A winner.

you can practically chisel in stone that he'll get max offers from the Knicks and Nets as a starting point.

If Sac can get Cousins mentally prepared to function with the team, I'd expect to also make a max offer (if they have the money).

heck, throw Milwaukee into that mix as well -- put Giannis back at forward and move MCW to the bench permanently.

Houston would also make sense, so would Utah if they're ready to make major step forward and not rely on Exum's health.

Good news for our BRK swap next year, too, since you know the Nets would LOVE to add Conley.

I can't imagine why he would want to leave Memphis to sign with Nets. I also can't imagine why he wouldn't pick many other situations before the Nets. Playing with Brook Lopez and Thad Young and no young talent or shooters? Brutal...

The Knicks at least can offer a mix of a legit star (Carmelo) a rising young talent and a competent starting center (Lopez) with playing at MSG. Brooklyn has nothing.

It will be interesting if the Grizz keep trying to patch a sinking ship or if they look to go with a quick rebuild around a resigned Conley. This will be fun to watch with the Cs owning their pick down the road.

What if he wants to go someplace where he will get a max contract and be treated as the #1 guy on the team?  Where should he go?
