What should we do if the offseason goes worst case

What if all of these happens:

KD is not coming
Bulter not interested in playing in Boston
The nets pick is not top 3
Barnes, Batum, Holford, DeRozan all stay put
We miss Whiteside, Howard(don't want these two anyway)

What would Danny do? try to get a Amir Johnson type contract to help us a bit? would that be considered a failure?

I may be in the minority, but I am not afraid of running it back with the same group next year, plus an injection of young talent.

This is a 48 win team with a very young core that is still improving. Add a young stud at the top of the lottery, sign a couple of veterans to short-money or non-guaranteed deals like you did with Turner, Jerebko, and A. Johnson, and start the season. See if any blockbuster deals open up at the trade deadline.

The concern I have in this scenario would be what to do with the overflow of young bench players and draft picks. If you make all the picks this year, including the second rounders, there will have to be multiple draft-and-stash types. Trading some of the picks and/or players like Young, Rozier, Hunter, or Mickey into for draft assets in future years.

But otherwise, I’m not afraid of building through the draft and letting the team grow organically, assuming we strike out on big-money free agents and trades.

Have a similar off season to last off season.  Continue to add pieces, preferably on short deals.  Keep the flexibility open for summer '17.  Don't do anything stupid like overpay a second or third tier FA on a long term deal.  Certainly explore the trade market options.

Would it be a failure?  No.  But it would be a disappointment in the worst case scenario unfolded.

I would agree with that generally. Maybe see if you can get a Crowder type big at Crowder/Bradley type money.

Maybe try to trade for multiple 2nd rounders and see if you can do a bunch of draft and stashes like the Spurs used to do. They added Tiago, Scola, and Manu that way.

I'd love to have a Walter Tavares developing overseas right now.

I'd be trying to trade our 2016 Nets pick and parts for Okafor while conserving cap space for 2017 to make a run at Hayward and Ibaka. I'd be looking to draft a draft-n-stash player in Luwawu, Korkmaz, or Zizic along with a first round rookie in Sabonis, Prince, or Stone. I'd draft Maker in the second round. Carry our first round pick and Maker into the season and send the rest over seas to develop. Or I'd combine the C's pick and Dallas pick to move up for Labissiere. I'd resign Turner to a cap friendly deal and pick up Johnson's contract for 2016-17.

Thomas/Bradley/Hayward/Ibaka/Okafor would be a pretty lethal lineup in 2017-18 with Smart/Turner/Crowder/Mickey/Olynyk coming off the bench, not to mention the '17 and '18 Nets picks.

I think team would really have to look at how FA works out.

Scenario 1- If KD goes to Spurs or Warriors we are done with championship aspirations for 2 or 3 years. Just go more youth movement build for a contender 3 years from now.

Scenario 2- If teams across the league stay pretty much as they are and no Mega team forms then we just accept slow rebuild. C's while they missed on the franchise changers in off season can remain in play to strike at deadline.

Rule #1 would be "Don't panic".

The dumbest thing to do would be to trade the veterans and blow it up.

If things go worst case and the Cs end up with the 5th or 6th pick and no one to trade it for I think one option is the Rudy Gay trade I recently posted.

Offer up #16 and #31 for Gay or if the Kings pick is after the Cs say #8 or #9 trade #6 and #23 to the Kings for #8 and Gay.

In the event of a trade down I would look for a home run prospect Chriss is a boom or bust type guy who may be worth the pick. In that situation I would then look to go for a center at #16 Zizic, Zubac, or Stone. I would even consider Onuaku who I think will be a draft riser. If Chriss isn't available in a trade down or at #6 I would probably go with Poeltl and then follow up with T Prince. After that the rest of the draft needs to be BPA and draft and stash.

Bring back Amir and JJ on their current deals, try to re-up Turner on a similar 1+1 deal, and just keep the cap space for a mid season trade or to acquire assets as a facilitator.  Let the team continue to grow as a unit.  Then try again next summer with $70 million in cap room.  Gordon Hayward should at least give a listen.

As I replied in that thread, this trade doesn't work because on draft night, it can't have all gone wrong.  Free agency won't have started yet, so there's no way to know you've missed out on everyone.  Unless you just want to take whoever Sacramento picks and thinks they'll do the same -- which is not how these things work.

This is as close to "Don't Panic" as there is & its a good one.  I'm not enamored about bringing back ET but if we're facing "worse case" here, then sure.

I'll still be a fan no matter what. ( even if we keep Sully)

If we release Sully it will be a step towards not committing to a guy who has not committed himself and I am sure we will upgrade at some positions.  I think we can still get a good player via draft or sign one even a guy like Bazemore would help us but he looked mundane against CLE.  But he is young with room to grow.

Like most, Im fine with this team for another year but with a different approach to our young players. If the worst happens, given the number of youngsters on the roster, the year would have to be devoted to player development.... especially in the front court. Our Top-3 pick, Mickey, RJ, Rozay, Young (if he's on the team) will have to get some serious minutes next year to see if any of them is worth keeping.
