he picked up the pro game and had the ability to come in on offence and not disrupt the flow-his passing early season and defence was better than young-he hit SOME threes but drifted off course mid season-easy to do with just a few minutes here and there but what disturbed me was his three games with red claws
the first game he put up numbers but still didn't shoot for% the next two were as if he was disinterested with plummeting numbers-
i read he didn't audition for celts as he wanted to go home
is that the same rj i saw with red claws
i allways felt rj plays better up as his bbiq plays off others-
i'm starting to think that rj might get some competition coming from our draft--has anybody ever asked management how good a shooter is he-is he strong enough for nba

He was a scorer not a shooter.  But shooting is a skill that can be improved.  He never is set, or balanced and sometimes twists when he shoots.   I think if he fixed some of those mechanics he would be a better shooter. He has a fast release but just needs to improve the mechanics of it some and I think he will be ok.

Look at how nice he shoots when he squares up.   In the pros, I think he worries too much about getting the shot off, than shooting.

A spot-up shooter with poor fundamentals who can't guard a chair.

Bad pick by Ainge that should be off-loaded this summer if at all possible.

He had a few games where he shined in college and that got him to the NBA. Doesn't look like he is growing as a player but it's tough 1st year. Maybe he will do better this season.

Only his shooting mechanics b/c he's shooting fron his belly/chest area, like Kelly O, not above his head. That makes him a better shooter (a bir easier to shoot) but much more difficult to get his shoot off if guarded. I'm ok with other.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I wanted Montrezl Harrell with the pick, but RJ was the other obvious choice at that position in the draft. He and Young have some similarities in that they both had big moments in college and that probably increased their draft stock; it's a shame neither of them can really shoot in the NBA, though (yet).

With so many picks on the horizon, it is hard to see Danny sticking with either of them unless we have a big quantity for quality trade. Even if that's the case, I imagine at least one of them is getting shipped out. Neither is particularly valuable right now, unfortunately.

For a second there I thought you were talking about Reggie Miller.

RJ has to bulk up this summer in order to play at NBA level

He said so himself recently

Huh? The player I saw this year was someone who demonstrated an unusually good feel for the game and was a pleasant surprise on defense. The problem was he wasn't able to do the thing they drafted him for, which was to provide shooting.

He's in the same situation as Rozier. Whether they get any minutes next year depends on what Ainge does more than anything they do.

Where does this fiction come from?

Didn't watch the playoffs, did you? Hunter was absolutely lost on defensive rotations, and drew the wrath of Stevens on multiple occasions.

He can't defend, and he can't shoot. At best, he is a D-League player.

Another Ainge swing and miss. Baseball pun intended.

Not to be a downer, but what exactly do you mean by "early season"? To me, Hunter is yet another example of fans getting overly excited about a late first round/second round player who had some good summer league games who in reality has a ceiling of a role player and is more than likely than not to be out of the league in 5 years.

That doesn't mean that Hunter won't get it together, but the excitement about him coming out of the summer league was ridiculous. I remember someone starting a thread about how he should start.

Not true for IT, he has concentration on his shot and takes the hit.   But true for most, good shooters are so zoned in that they can make shots even when guarded close or throttled because they focus so much on their target.

I do not think he is a spot-up shooter, I would say he was a volume scorer.   He played for his father in the NCAAs, he was the team's go to guy.

He is young, CBS seemed to trust him.   I think most of things I mentioned can be fixed too with some work.   I think it is too early to worry, one could argue that he shows more promise than James Young.

Just like all of Danny's other picks huh? Clearly your friend who is a scout who has never gotten anything wrong would have made a much better selection.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

U know, my 7 year old son plays basketball and I'm trying to break that same habit out of him. Its hard cause he's short n has the power to push the ball from his belly/chest to get the shot in. But I have him raising that ball above his vision. I want my son to see the hoop with the ball above his eye sight. Pushing up instead of pushing to the hoop, and using his fingers to roll the ball for distance. Its a flawed mechanic that needs to be addressed early in age.
