Woj is reporting the team and Joerger are parting ways

Seems like this is mutual.

Kind of funny your name is the Grindfather OP, lol.

Other than that, I agree. From the text, it appears that Joerger, wanted to reach out and test how much attention he could warrant from other teams, and the Grizzlies didn't like that and apparently let him free to do whatever he wanted.

If I was the Grizzlies, I wouldn't have let Joerger, and demanded any team that wanted to hire him should send us a compensation.  ;D

The Kings should be on the phone with Joerger this minute.

Absolutely outrageous. Joerger did an amazing job this year.

The Kings seem perfect. Joerger made the playoffs with Z-Bo, Matt Barnes, Lance Stephenson, PJ Hairston, Tony Allen, and Birdman. That's basically a street gang from "The Warriors." Boogie's going to seem like Tim Duncan in comparison.

100% agree.

Dave Joerger is one hell of a coach, and they should have kept them until they get any sort of compensation from other teams that wants his services. He is under contract, and even if they really wanted to let him go, they would have atleast talked about on how they can get any sort of compensation if he gets "traded" to another team.

Instead, they fired him too quickly IMO.

Lots of good coaches on the market.

This smells like Memphis deciding to go into rebuild mode to me.

I'm expecting Memphis to tear it down.  Let Conley walk, trade Gasol, ZBo, and any other vets under contract.  They can't afford to take half-measures given their own pick situation over the next few years.  Better to act now.

Maybe if Memphis was a FA destination things could be different, but they're not.

It sounds like part of this was a philosophical difference.  Joerger wanted to run at a faster pace, Gasol/Randolph/Conley were resistant to this style of play, and management chose its stars over its coach.

I think you're right. I think Memphis has pretty much gone as far as they will go with this bunch and Joerger is too good a coach to be used in a blow it up situation. If Memphis blows it up they have to go complete tank and be as bad as possible because their picks the next couple of seasons are only top 5 protected, otherwise they are owed to other teams. Joerger, like Stevens, can get way too much out of so little that the Griz would never be so bad as to tank and still keep their draft picks with him at the helm. If their next coach is a college coach or some first time head coach, they are going full tank.

Sounds like he'll have his choice of team to coach. Sacramento making a strong push for him, but Rockets also heavily in play. Pacers a possibility, too.

His up-tempo style would be interesting to see in Houston.

Ehh, how much different is his up-tempo style than Karl's? Could he help their God-awful defense at all?

This year Memphis' defense was mediocre (although still better than the Kings), but the injuries were out of control, so it's difficult to judge.  The prior two years they were 3rd and 8th, respectively.  Personnel obviously matters, but I'm fairly confident he can coach defense quite a bit better than Karl.

If Memphis blows it up, would it be worth putting together a package to bring in Gasol? I'd try to keep the Brooklyn pick out of it, but he could slide into this roster pretty easily, if only for a few seasons.

Draft Ingram, trade for Gasol, sign Durant, win a championship with Thomas, Bradley, Durant, Crowder, Gasol lineup. Done.
