I am really enjoying these past two games at home. I know we stunk up the place in games one and two but look at how we have turned it all around and made it a series. We can actually win this now and make it to the second round. How cool would that be for this young team?

Never give up hope. We have had the example set and proven to us by our young Celtics.

Besides, the off season is a couple months away. I'm not ready to stop watching Celtics Basketball.

The "true fan" stuff is specifically against our rules, it's one of Jeff Clark's pet peeves, and it is the height of arrogance. Who here has the monopoly on defining how fans must act?

Show a little humility, and follow our rules.

The rules don't say you can't discuss what it means to be a fan. The rules do say you can't label people, and I wasn't trying to do that. I'm not saying I'm a great fan and so-and-so isn't. I was just asking why if you hate the playoffs so much you bother to be a fan, because to me this is the most enjoyable part. Even if you lose, you always have some shot to win until it's all over.

I wasn't trying to bait anyone into an argument. I see the thread for what it is, frustration from getting spanked in game 2. I get that, I was just trying t put it in perspective. Make people think a bit. I don't think that people posting that they wish it was all over, really mean that and that was what I was trying to get at. I guess I could have been more tactful.

Rule number 4 on the rule page is "Have fun!" If any rule breaking should be looked into it is this one.

you have a lot to learn about being a fan.

You're not the arbiter of who is or isn't a "true fan", and condescendingly asking others how they can justify calling themselves a fan is beyond acceptable.  It's judgmental, it's arrogant, and it's against our rules.  If you want to suggest different rules, do it in the Comments and Remarks thread, but this one isn't going to change.

Hey guys, I'm a DIEHARD Celtics fan. I'm from New Bedford, Ma. I'm what u call a superstitious fan. I think we all r in some ways. Sometimes I have to change the channel when the games on cause I feel like if I keep watching the game, our teams gonna lose. Lol, I know its crazy but I bleed green man and I don't want anything bad for our team. So if I say crazy things like " I can't wait for the season to end " its just throwing negative energy at the Basketball gods n hope they make the Celtics win. You can't say it didn't work, we came back and won game 3 and 4 🙌 Go Celtics...

I guess you got me on the 1st and 3rd quote. But the 2nd one? Where in the rules does it say you can't share your opinion of what being a a fan is?

My mistake on the other ones was really using the word "you" or "some of you." I should have disagreed with the the comment not the poster. Like you have done Roy. You didn't call me arrogant and judgmental. You used the term "it" instead of "you." I mean the result is the same.  I can tell what you think of me, but you did it within the rules.

The thing is though, that the rule says:
Do not label or challenge fellow posters -- either individually or collectively -- in a way that is likely to provoke a negative response.

I didn't get any negative response (except for you telling me I broke the rules.) No one bothered to reply saying anything negative except you.

You screwed up & crossed the line by questioning the OP's fanhood.  That's spelled out in the posting rules.

There.  Now two of us saying it.

Guys its OK. I don't get buthurt over sports issues involving me being a (true fan) I know I am. The post was kind of baited for a negative response and I do apologise for that. I was just frustrated at the time and wanted to vent. I wish the team to go all the way. No reason to take anything personal. We r lucky to have such a good team to watch. Go Celtics...

TP to you for allowing common sense to take over.

I feel forums and boards that over police themselves end up only hurting themselves in the long run. People are humans and make mistakes. There was certainly nothing malicious that was being said and like the OP said, he brought it onto himself.

Good on you OP for owning up.

Now we just need you to create another of these threads if we are losing at halftime tonight!  :)

I was a real fan once. Summer of 97 if memory serves correct. It was a glorious time. The weather was perfect, the food tasted better, and the women, well... I'll stop there. Many summers have come and gone since that time, none quite the same. Alas, I will always have my memories of my all too brief time as a real fan.

Hemingway these ops are fair guys.  I know you want to argue your side , but trust me this time you won't get far and will actually win  by saying these two words I say to my wife when I'm in the rabbbit hole.   "yes dear"

Anyways going back to the main topic.     Off season couldn't come soon enough, let's tank, let's lose on purpose, let's be like the hawks/heat and manipulate placement in standings

It's all bad things to do.  The baskteball gods will eventually make you pay a price

We win tonight and I want to win game 4.  And beat the Cavs even though the odds are heavily against us.  Then who knows

This is a wonderful unit.  Hard to dislike.  Reminds me of that pistons team with Prince, Hamilton etc.  Hardworking , team 1st mentality  group of guys

Only reason I said I couldn't wait for the off season is because I'm excited about all our assets. Really no reason to give up. I tell u man this team responded to my negativity big time. We are more then capable of coming back and winning this game tonight. If we don't then its OK. The series turned into the best of three. ATL is a hard place to win but somewhere up there Red is lighting a cigar and tunning in. Let's get it in !!!

Y'know, Plato argued that each of us carries a representation of the pure, ideal form of true fan in our psyches and that every fan we encounter, including ourselves, is simply a flawed copy of that perfect template.

But Plato never watched  the BOSTON CELTICS play, baby!!!   8) 8) :police:  8)  8)

..I don't know where I'm going with this.

If we're going far enough in our lives to actually come on an internet forum to discuss the Celtics on a daily or near daily basis, my guess is that fandom question has already been answered.
