The win got me thinking about how BS does get guys to play their best effort here. So maybe instead of going for a superstar which is almost impossible to trade for why not a package of guys. What if even if they get a top 2 pick the team settles for near All-star guys?
Trade Ingram/Simmons, 23rd pick, Hunter, AJ and Rozier to Jazz.
Get Hayward and Favors.
I know we want superstars but that trade makes the roster very good.
Starters: IT, AB, Hayward, JJ, Favors
Bench: Smart, Young, Crowder, Mickey, KO

Without losing your core these are tremendous players to add. A top two in the east probably with just that group.

Now that isn't a championship team but the salary of that roster is just 64 million. The cap will be 90 million. Leaving team enough to sign or absorb a max player. You also still have plenty of picks to trade as well. Yet I feel that team is absolutely enough to get KD on board at PF already. And with KD in DA can call in a vet guard and big to sign for vet mins. Maybe Stat and Thornton?

IT/Smart
AB/Thornton/Young
Hayward/Crowder
KD/JJ/Mickey
Favors/KO/Stat

So what do you guys think about using assets even if a top 2 pick to secure Hayward and Favors? It may get you KD but even if it doesn't you are a top east team that didn't lose any of its core.

Hasn't Durant been vocal about not wanting to play the 4? He wants to be more of a 3. I don't think we should sell him on being a 4, but you could move AB to the bench and have a huge line up of:

IT/Hayward/IT/JJ/Favors

With the next 5 in being: Smart, Bradley, Crowder, KO, Mickey

I don't mind that as the next bridge gap until we can trade for another legitimate superstar.

No its the offense system of traditional 4. He doesn't mind modern 4s and he plays the 4 for team USA already.

I don't think Utah has any interest in trading any of their three-person core.  They'll try to add to the supporting cast and get a full season out of Hayward - Favors - Gobert.

It's been a long time for that core and they haven't ever gotten it done. The West is a buzz-saw. And none of their players have made an all-star. They arent main options or superstars and without any high picks how do they land a top player to lead them past other Western power houses? C's have assets to trade despite their very similar predicament. C's also have a decent coach and huge cap space. If Jazz believe there is a 50% chance Ingram or Simmons is a Superstar they should take the shot. I think either player could be. And at the very least will be All star players at one point. Lyles, Gobert, Ingram, Hood and Rozier is a nice group of young guys to build around.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Why are we all just brushing this off like it isn't a championship contender? We Durant, Hayward, and Favors without losing any of our core players and things are just going to get slightly better?

Let's all just cross our fingers that we get a top 2 pick, or some team with an all-star really loves Bender/Hield/Murray. The options become almost limitless, especially with the ho-hum signing of Durant.

I read an article the other day about some rumblings of Favors hitting the market due to him not really being able to effectively play with Gobert, who they obviously choose over Favors. I don't know about Hayward, though.

I don't think you're getting both Favors and Hayward for that package, but I certainly would go for them if Cousins, Butler, Love, etc. aren't attainable. I'm not sure what else you'd add to the mix, though. You'd probably have to lose Crowder in that scenario.

This would also be one of those situations where I'd sub Smart in for IT, because you have more than enough scoring and playmaking in that first unit, and IT leading the bench mob would mean there would be no drop off in offense from the starting lineup to the bench. I think adding KD, Hayward, and Favors while keeping Smart, IT, And Bradley would absolutely make us a contender.

I think Favors will be shopped because of fit and Lyles in the waiting. Hayward probably won't be shopped due to business. Yet Simmons or Ingram would definitely be something you can sell to fans making Hayward available.

I just don't see the point or value in just Favors or Hayward. Neither is a top 15 player. C's don't give up a potential top 10 player for one of those guys. But if we are talking both top 30 players then it makes sense from both teams. But if you are talking other assets for Favors without the Nets pick that I would be on board with.

In terms of value I see this as
Hayward a top 20-30 range player
Favors a top 25-35 range player
For
Top 2 pick potential top 15 player.
Potential PG starter prospect in Rozier.
Vet for young squad in AJ
Potential bench player in Hunter.
And an additional first.

Its all based on potential of the players developing and fit here but it could be a great trade for both teams. For C's and Jazz it's a lot of risk.

Hayward + Favors together, that's quite a haul. It depends on the "other assets", of course, but basically yes.

Draft is getting closer any chance we can see a few more votes on this scenario?
