Well, upon further review, it seems intentional to me, though it's definitely not a punch. It looks like IT was genuinely signaling something to one of his teammates but then Schroder's head happened to suddenly be in the immediate neighborhood, so IT took advantage and tried to get in a little cheap shot. I don't think it warrants a suspension, and I certainly hope he's not suspended, but I think he will be. And I think that if that happens, the series is pretty much over.

I tend to agree with this.  It was more of a 'cuff' than a punch, but it was still unnecessary contact to the head.  My hope is that he just gets assessed a retroactive flagrant 1.  But I wouldn't be surprised to see him miss a game.

Deserves to get suspended. Idiotic thing to do. I have no sympathy for guys seeing what cheap shots they can get away with. There was no basketball play there whatsoever.

I can see Rondo hammering Brad Miller in the face. At least Miller was shooting at the end of a game. This is just stupid.

Sounds like he will.  Bummer.

There's the excuse for when the Celts lose in 5.  AB's injury, IT suspended for game 4, this series means nothing.   ;D

Look on the bright side - weren't you saying for most of the offseason that our best-case scenario was winning a game in the playoffs?  Well, here we are.   :D

i think IT will be suspended

It's not on topic but it's sorta been brought up - i'm glad i'm not the only one who is disgusted by the preferential treatment all the GSW players seem to get, particularly their enforcers, Draymond and Bogut. Have you guys seen their screens???

That is incredibly off target. This is a thread about hitting someone in the head on a non-basketball play. Illegal picks are a very different topic.

Doubt it. I reckon they overlook Isaiah's faux pas.
I think the same.
In the case of Draymond Green who did sthg much worse at the end of game 2 against Dallas, he only got a flagrant 1, not even a flagrant 2.

From the direction shown in this vine video, Schroder was running directly at Thomas, instead of around him.

this is one of the benefits of IT making the all-star team.

If he wasn't an all-star this season there would be no question he would be suspended.

By the way, when does the league have to make a decision?

According to twitter he's not suspended!

Source?  This would be great news but Twitter is a big place.

EDIT:  Looked it up, it's in a few places.  Very lucky break for IT and the team.  Really thought it would go against us.  Happy to be wrong.  Looks like he still gets a Flagrant 1 but no suspension is what counts.

"Thomas gets assessed a Flagrant 1 for slapping Shroder. Smart's $5K flop fine for launching himself backwards over baseline."

I don't think IT should be suspended.

1) Without camera angles showing what IT was pointing at, it's impossible to have context for his arm movement.  Without context, you can't say for sure there was intent.  The refs saw nothing live.  You don't suspend someone in the playoffs because there's probable evidence, unless you're Roger Goodell.  You give him a flagrant 1 for making unnecessary contact, and tell the refs to be quick to curtail extra-curriculars in game 4, but that's it.  It's the playoffs, it's borderline, and the officials either didn't see it live, or saw it and didn't think anything of it.  A suspension would be wrong.

It is fully possible in my mind that IT did intend to hit Schroder.  I'm not excusing it.  But it's also possible it was incidental, and you can't take a key player out of a playoff series with 100% certainty.  That doesn't exist here.

2) Stu Jackson was notorious for doling out suspensions, so I'm not surprised he would suggest such a thing.  But he's not in charge any more.

EDIT: as I was posting, the flagrant 1 ruling came down.  Good job NBA!

Hopefully this fuels IT4 and the Celtics and they dismantle the Atlanta Hawks in Game 4.

And I better expect horrendous boos to Schroeder every time he touches the ball. He became public enemy #1 in the Garden.

That's a relief, now let's win game 4.
