  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
It's pretty obvious that if Durant cares about winning and not just maximizing dollars or landing in a prime location, then Durant will have legitimate interest in going to Boston.  There is a non-zero chance that Durant cares about more than just money/location.  Therefore, there is a non-zero chance that Durant ends up a Celtic.

You don't need inside sources or green-tinted goggles to understand this.

I agree that there is a non-zero chance he looks at Boston, but if Boston gets dumped in this series, that trend line begins to approach 0.

Mannix has no insight to Durants destination.. He is just trying to speculate and doing a poor job doing it... anyone can write a Homer article to help fans get over getting destroyed game 2..

Ill tell you this is the Celtics lose this series they have 0 chance landing Durant
PaylAllen has no insight to Durants destination.. He is just trying to speculate and doing a poor job doing it... anyone can write a Pessimistic forum post to help prevent fans from getting over getting destroyed game 2..

Bitter Jim has no insight to Paul Allen. Anyone can write a ad-hominem forum post to help discredit someone they disagree with while trying to get over getting destroyed in game 2.

IP has no insight to good forums posting, CelticsBlog has NEVER signed a prime free agent poster.  Anyone can write a critical post from a slightly altered template while trying to get over getting destroyed in the Game 2 thread.

Mannix is very reputable and writes for The Vertical. In fact, this isn't even about the C's. It's a national piece about the Brooks signing and the snippet about the Celtics was just that.

The Heat (a 5th seed) were dispatched by the C's in the 1st round in just 5 games. They signed James and Bosh a couple of months later.

Miami is a destination spot where Boston is not.. Luxurious beaches and warm year weather all the other perks not mention no state Tax so they keep most of their contract.. Second Wade was already there and he recruited James and Anthony, where they eventually settled on Bosh to join.. completely different circumstances.. 3rd Boston has never signed a FA in his prime so put it at .00001% Durant becomes a Celtic

When we were contending we had free agents choose us over other contending teams. We had guys like Murphy, Shaq, Sheed, etc. come to Boston over "luxury spots". The fact is we haven't had money in a long time, so let's not confuse being financially capable with not being able to.

Kidding right? Murphy, shaq, and sheed were on their last legs and many times i thought to myself they were hurting this team come playoff time... Boston has NEVER signed a player in their PRIME...

Whether you agree or disagree that they helped or hurt us, the fact is that several teams were after their services and with an equal playing field (money wise) we signed them.

Example:

Quote

Mar 1, 2011
Marc Stein
ESPN Senior Writer

Highly coveted free agent Troy Murphy is signing with the Boston Celtics.

Murphy told ESPN.com via e-mail that he will join the Celtics after spending much of the past 48 hours agonizing between Boston and the Miami Heat. Murphy reached terms of a buyout with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

Murphy must still clear waivers, but it's rare for players in the NBA to be claimed since a team must have cap space to fit their salary.

Murphy also received recruiting pitches this week from Portland, New York and Orlando, sources said, but the 6-foot-10 forward was always determined to sign with a top contender in anticipation of making the first deep playoff run of his career. Murphy has played in more games (639) than any other active player without appearing in the playoffs.

i keep hearing this and it doesnt seem to be a compelling argument to me. why would any free agent think "i will ignore the past few years of quick rebuild, the potential for growth through the draft, a great coach, a positive locker room setting, and one of the best front offices in the nba. instead, i will decide where i play for the next 4-5 years based upon 4 games played by an injured team. yep, that is what i will do."

i think that durant may very well sit down and talk with the celtics.  and THAT, boys and girls, is when he will decide. after listening to ainge, CBS, and selected players talk about what the franchise is doing and where it is going and what he role will be in the future.

durant isnt stupid and i dont think he will make a monumental decision based upon this series.

Neither really.  It just says we're a dark horse candidate to land Durant, toward the end of a larger piece about Scott Brooks and Durant's free agency.  It's not really about the Celtics at all.  The entirety of how it mentions us is in the OP.
