Saw this article in my daily Celtics reading and felt it important enough to pass along for discussion. I'm not one to hate on the refs but man was that a poorly called game down the stretch.

Frustrating but I'm not going to put the loss on the refs. We spent the first quarter playing so passively, settling for long jumpers almost every possession. We dug ourselves a hole that we couldn't get out of.

I'm hoping that the way they finished the game gives them confidence that they can come out strong in Game 2. Atlanta are definitely beatable if we make a few adjustments

The refs refused to call fouls on the Hawks.
Lebron once went FIVE GAMES without a foul being called on him.
The NBA is a joke.

Silver lining: The refs will now have an eye out for Horford setting illegal screens.

They didn't call the 3 second violation, which sucks, but the Hawks didn't score on that possession and Boston's very next possession they called a foul on Korver, which should not have been called, which led to 1 of 2 foul shots.  Call those a wash.

The two non-calls on Horford were in the same possession, so at best you only get one of them.  Atlanta did not score on that possession.  Unless I am wrong, I don't believe you get foul shots for an illegal screen and since Atlanta didn't score on that possession, there was basically no harm no foul (except for a few extra seconds off the clock).

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The refs after we got the 5th foul at the he 10min mark, let several things slide too

Good points.   Would we get FT's if we were in the bonus (on the illegal screen)?

If we only botched 4 possessions every night, we'd never lose a game.

I vehemently disagree that Korver shouldn't have gotten a foul on that play.  He stuck a knee out and clipped whoever that was driving and I remember the ref motioning to his leg when he called it.  I'd challenge anyone on here or in the NBA to explain why that isn't a foul.

I did a quick search for the video but didn't see it.  TP for anyone who posts it.  We need the replay from the baseline ground level.

Here's one they didn't mention: At 94-91 Atl, Al Horford runs over two Celtics to get a rebound. Obvious foul.

Then, the Celtics get hit with a foul and Al goes to the line for two made foul shots.

The officiating in Game 1 was every bit as much a debacle as the Celtics' first-half play, and those three bozos should not be allowed near a playoff game again.

How many games would we lose if we botched four plays every two minutes would be more accurate.  And to be fair, those are the ones they admit to botching.

The loyalty to the officials is noble, but Jim Capers, Curly and Larry were terrible all night long. They were definitely a factor in the game.

Quote
The first was a 3-second violation that wasn’t called against Kent Bazemore with 1:58 remaining, which would’ve given the Celtics a free throw.

The other two were consecutive missed illegal screen calls against Al Horford, allowing the Hawks to continue their possession at a key moment.

They're lucky they didn't go through the whole game, or the list would be much larger than that. The foul discrepancy was up to a 14 foul difference at one point...
