Smart clinched the loss with the horrible foul. Great hustle but I'm really surprised people think he's such an intelligent player.

Smart is an intelligent player who definitely made a bone-headed play that did in fact cost us the game, I know I shut it off after that play. if he continues doing such things then it's definitely a problem.

but it was a play that sealed the loss in which the whole team sucked and Smart was one of the few bright spots for the majority of the game.

i was surprised when isaiah didn't set matcus up after he hit his threes, he even shot a dagger after a foul call on isaiah-he was in a zone-on another play he slamed home a miss by amir but a foul was called -did he get up on that one--the stage is set for players to step up

Intelligent is the wrong word to use.  He's a ferocious competitor who gives 100% effort, but he's in the bottom 25% of the league in terms of intelligence (obviously my guestimation).  This is not the first time he's made such a bone-headed decision to foul.  I love his effort and some of the things he brings to the table, but he is by no stretch of the imagination intelligent.

I think as you said, intelligence is the wrong word. Marcus Smart has some of the best on court awareness Ive ever seen. I mean this in terms of always seeming to know where everyone is, being able to read where the game is going, where other people are and where he is on the court. I think he really lacks when it comes to being aware of what he should do.

I remember last night a Hawk was in trouble around the baseline and they went to throw the ball back to half but Marcus was two steps ahead of him and was able to track to his man, leap up and intercept the pass. There are so many instances of him showing incredible awareness and anticipating where the ball will be or some how diving for a loose ball and understanding exactly where the Celtic streaking down the floor for the open layup is. That is one aspect of awareness. the other is understanding you are down 3 with 36 seconds left. Thats the second time this has happened and the other obvious example of poor intelligence would be his shot selection.

Luckily, I think the inteligence and learning to always be aware of the situation is something that can be learned. His ability to read the game and his knack for big plays is not something you can teach in my opinion.

You are so completely wrong about this and that is all I will say.

Really hoping that Smart gets to start the rest of the way and makes his mark in the league. (EDIT: The whole basketball world will be paying heavy attention to us if all the other first round matchups end quickly.) If we beat the Hawks, I have a feeling that Marcus will have been the team MVP of the series.

You have differing opinions, and that is allowed.

I tend to agree with the "not so high BBIQ" group.  I don't think he is in the bottom 25% in IQ, but in terms of him that certainly not being a strength of his.

I think Smart's basketball IQ is merely average, but I think he makes up for that by playing really hard - and I can respect that.

Same deal with Crowder.  Not a high BBIQ by any means, but he fights his way to victory.

If you were to compare these guys to characters in an RPG game then Smart and Crowder would most certainly be barbarians, not wizards.

Smart makes poor decisions like that quite frequently.  It is definitely far from a one off.

Really bad foul, I agree.

Really good game though.

He has a chance now to really shine.  And I think he relishes that.

Great hustler. Intelligent. I'd have to say I have the complete opposite opinion. Do any media types like Mannix still think he's a franchise player? The hype drives me nuts. I wish they'd just call him for what he is . A bad offensive player and a very good defensive player.

what was marcus's three point shooting in his rookie year .330% not awful, thats coming off the high ankle sprain
where it effected his his first step, takeoff, lift and didn't stop being painfull till mid summer
meanwhile everybody wanted him to attack the basket
he missed 18 games with his knee and everybody is down on his shooting and his attempts to get to hoop-i have seen huge improvement this year getting to hoop and i'm sure his three point shooting will get better

Tonight was a nice step in the direction of my wishcast.
