Anybody else worried?

"By him dropping out with a month of his one year in college left, I have lost all respect for Ben Simmons. He treated college as a one-stop-shop on his way to the NBA, and literally quit when the basketball season was over."

"This wasn’t because he was taking too hard of classes, it’s simply because he just didn’t care enough. All Simmons cared about was basketball, and I even question that sometimes as he looks lazy on the court. With the unquestioned ability to lead his team to wins against big teams, he didn’t even look like he cared and never played to his full ability in those games."

I'm sure this is pretty typical for a lot of guys. I could care less. I don't care if Simmons can't read. I know he's got a high Bball IQ and cares about basketball.

Doesn't worry me a bit. Whole 'student-athlete' thing is a farce for these guys - they know they're going to the NBA as soon as possible, they know they're making millions of dollars for their schools and the NCAA with nothing in return, they know that those classes are a total waste of time. If I were Simmons, I'd skip college altogether and just play a year in Europe or China. Whole amateurism thing isn't so compelling when everyone but the athletes makes six figures if not seven.

Ben Simmons is a professional basketball player.  That's been his aim the whole time.  You could call him an "amateur" because he's not getting paid to play, yet.  But really, he's just a professional who's been forced to work for free.

The only reason he spent any time at all at a "school" is because he had to in order to play in the NBA.

To fault him for that is silly.  Fault the NCAA for this asinine system that maintains the farce of the "student athlete" at the schools with major sports programs.

Of course he withdrew from his classes.  They won't help him become a professional basketball player.  He needs to focus on getting ready for the draft.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

The one and done college rule is dumb anyways. Only reason it's a thing is to give the NCAA extra revenue.

Obviously if simmons cant read thats a red flag but I doubt thats the case. Freshman classes are a joke anyways. Almost nothing related to your major and a bunch of random electives and filler. Simmons is going to make tens of millions in the NBA and from a logical standpoint this last month of education is literally useless for him when he could be training for the nba.

"All Simmons cared about was basketball..."

Good. If we draft him, I'm glad to know that (which is better than the next bit, "sometimes as he looks lazy on the court").

He didn't want to be in college to begin with. The only reason he went was because he had to. What do I care what he did? I'm guessing that the demographics of CB are such that many of us can't imagine not going to college. As much as I like my bubble, not everyone feels that way.

I disagree. Shows you are a quitter

And you bring unwanted attention from teams (many) that care about that

1st question: what happened with the academics incident?
2nd question: did you finish school??

Vs

I had some issues. Skipped some classes. But knew it was not right and ended up finishing my semester after the basketball season ended

He doest even have to pass the classes. Just sit there like a statute. Just go.

How do we know he will show up to practice late?

Pay attention to film sessions etc.

I don't really care, but he is a fool to not take advantage of the educational opportunity right in front of him.  I refuse to believe that going to classes will interfere with him preparing for the draft.  Kids these days....

The article just reads as an emotional, relatively lazy hit piece on Simmons.  The writer is just projecting his emotion into everything here and building a case against Simmons.  I also laughed when he finished the piece "My #1 pick would be Brandon Ingram"  with a picture of Buddy Hield right above it.

Is dropping out of classes to get ready to enter the NBA really any worse than the generation of guys who left college early to enter the draft who blew off their spring semester classes?  Is there any difference?

Just as everyone else has said, who cares? At least he was smart enough to go to classes while in-season so there'd be no disqualification issues. The NCAA is a joke of an organization. Blame them, not Ben.

Also, blame the media. The media has been talking about him the entire year. Showing highlights, comparing him to other great players, etc. Why would he focus on classes when all he's heard is how good he can be in the NBA?

I don't really care, but he is a fool to not take advantage of the educational opportunity right in front of him.  I refuse to believe that going to classes will interfere with him preparing for the draft.  Kids these days....

I mean one year of college is not going to do anything for him if basketball doesn't work out. So this is really kind of a moot point.
