I can't help but feel we fell into a trap again. Same with last year when we beat the Cavs at the end and ended up with a bad first round matchup. At least we looked good in national TV.
Ironically, last year I believed we could beat the Hawks, but not this year. Despite the Hawks being a worse team this year.

Wait so we do have home court though right?

Also do you guys think Atlanta threw that game on purpose so they can face us?

No the C's are the 5th seed.
Unbelievable

Miami outscored us 35-13 in Q1. Then we outscored them 25-5 in Q3. And then destroyed them in Q4 35-21.

Crazy.

So if we were to get past the Hawks who would we play in the second round? Don't tell me Cleveand?
Cleveland.
Wow this is just horrible 2 of the most toughest outs in the east were screwed

why?? We can beat the hawks

Yeah I'm not too worried about the seedings.

Atlanta beat Boston 3-1 in the season series, but ultimately the Hawks and Celtics are VERY closely matched with their rosters, and the Playoffs are a whole other ball game.

Starters:
Teague < Thomas
Korver < Bradley
Bazemore < Crowder
Millsap > Johnson
Horford > Sully

Then off the bench:
Schroder = Smart
Hardaway < Turner
Sefolosha = Jerebko
Humphries < Olynyk

That's a really close matchup in terms of fit and talent, and it's likely going to be determined by effort and desire, rather than outright talent.  Might well be the most hard fought matchup in the first round.

I'm not all that concerned with the Cavs either to be honest.  Aside from Lebron (who is having maybe the last impressive season in years) nobody else on that Cleveland team has a lot of heart - Irving and Love in particular have practically zero playoff experience, and neither seems like the type who raises their game on the big stage.  Once you go beyond those three guys the team is really not especially talented.  Factor in that the team chemistry seems to be all over the place, and that Kyrie and Love are both injuries waiting to happen, and that series is by no means unwinnable.

Obviously Clevleand ARE the best team in the East and you do need to respect them, but for some reason I am actually more scared of playing Toronto then I am about playing Cleveland.

I just think we match up well with Cleveland.  I think Amir matches up nicely on Love defensively, Sully has the weight to take Mosgov, Crowder and Turner (maybe even Smart) can give Lebron a tough time, and Bradley can make things very hard for Irving.

We tend to struggle against teams with talented interior scorering bigs and we tend to struggle against teams who have a crapload of dangerous three point shooters.  Cleveland doesn't really have either, because you almost always have Lebron and Thompson/Mosgov on the court, and so you always have two poor three point shooters out there.

I think we match up well, and I don't think Cleveland wants to have to face us in the second round any more than we want to face them.  Lebron in particular has, I think, hates seeing green uniforms come playoff time! :D

It's mind boggling how bad Smart is at basketball.

You have got to be kidding me...

It is truly incredible how terrible you are at posting.

What an absolute joke...

You think you are smarter than Brad Stevens, apparently.

The starting PG of my college team was far more talented than Smart. The backup PG was probably better as well. Smart is just large, and he's a great competitor... but I'd much prefer to see him on the Pats than the Celts. He sucks at basketball. Sorry to be the one to rain on your parade. There's a thing called talent that he's sorely lacking. This concept is somehow hard to understand for some people and I don't understand why.

Maybe that's why Belichick was at the game? ;)

Seriously, though, I'm disappointed to be playing Atlanta but, knowing what I know now, if you offered me a choice of tonight's outcome, or that we get the #6 seed but lost by 24 tonight (Miami's halftime lead.), I kind of like the way things turned out.

Smart had a TOUGH year.

It would be really great to see him have a really nice playoffs.

I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Is it that hard to believe? Do you realize how many guys at the D1 college level are more talented than Smart? There are guys at your local YMCA, depending on where you live, that may be as talented.

Absolutely incredible transition defense.

Avery Bradley clutch hoops.   Olynyk clutch plays.   Turner midrange.   Amir guarding everyone.   IT late.

The third quarter was the best single stretch of Celtic basketball of the season, imho

I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that he went to Duke and played with Kyrie or something.
