How does his wing span and standing reach compare to our all time favorite player, Larry Bird?

Google tells me that Larry's standing reach was a very respectable 9'1". (Compared to 8'7" for Simmons).

That is a significant difference. I am surprised.

Draft Express has his latest standing reach (official LSU) at 9'1/2".  So that is much better.

I agree hands down Simmons should and will go #1. This college season first gave us a tantalizing picture of what good this kid can do on a basketball court and then showed us his flaws. Truth be told all 19 year old have a lot to work on in basketball and in life.

I feel that Simmons has as much riding on this years lottery as do the teams with the chances to land him. If he lands with the Cs, Suns, or Wolves then super stardom is his for the taking. However the Lakers and 76ers could make development an uphill battle for him.

No doubt he starts from day one on all 5 teams. The Cs are the only team that may be inclined to start the season with him on the bench but I think thats a stretch. First important thing is that he must be played at PF. The team that tries to play him at the SF without a true stretch 4 is making a huge mistake.

Good situations

Cs IT, AB, Crowder, Simmons, center (Sully/Amir/KO/FA?)

Suns
Knight, Bledsoe, Booker, Simmons, Chanlder/Lenn

T-Wolves Rubio, Lavine, Wiggins, Simmons, Towns

Bad Situations

LAL Russell, Clarkson, Simmons, Randle, ???

76ers ??,??,Simmons,Saric,Noel/Embiid/Okafor

Not totally un biased but the Cs seem like the best fit. Putting Simmons in a situation where defense and effort are expended and demanded will only push him harder towards greatness. As the Cs PF he will first and foremost be expected to defend, rebound and push the pace. Starting out his offense would be secondary as he would likely be 3rd-4th option. If Turner does not return he will find a nice second unit point forward niche available to him.

lol you just have to watch a highlight clip for 30 seconds to see his amazing reach- he's amazing finishing around the basket.

Just listened to Givony interview on the Herd.  Quite critical of Simmons.  Points out that for him to be effective, has to have the ball in his hands.  Basically Evan Turner super-sized.  That is a concern. Turner works great as a guy off the bench and spot starter, kind of our back up point guard. I would not use the no. 1 pick on that role.  Would not be surprised if Danny got the 1st pick, he tried to use it for a block buster trade.  Or just draft Ingram.

The LSU numbers are extremely suspect. Or, Simmons could have grown 5.5" on his reach in a couple months.

LSU also has Simmons running the fastest 3/4 court sprint in the history of Draft Express' measurements.

I can see Simmons going 1 or 2 depending on the team. Think C's are a fit more for Simmons since FA has a lot of questions. Do like the skills of Ingram more though.

When Michael Beasley was drafted. How did that work out?

Yeah, there's no way his standing reach is only 8'7".  That doesn't pass the eye test.

I'd go with Simmons at #1 for the reasons Crimson Stallion explained so well.  I just hope this conversation dramatically heats up on May 19.

I'm not sure who should go number one. I think Ingram has a chance to be special. Elite length, and shooting are the two most coveted skills/talents in the modern NBA.

His body is very similar to the Greek Freak's. When Giannis came out, one of the biggest knocks on him was his explosion. After Giannis put on some muscle he became explosive, I expect an increase in Ingram's explosion when he puts on muscle (similarly to the Greek Freak).

Honestly if the C's got the first overall pick, I'd heavily consider moving the pick to Philly. If we could get Noel/Okafor and the 2nd pick for the first pick and the Mavs pick I would make that trade every day even if it meant getting Ingram instead of Simmons.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Philly would have no interest in moving a lottery pick they valued that highly to move up one slot.

And if they did I'd be terrified they are selling us a lemon and say no in all odds.

I'd consider flipping the first for the second and Noel/Okafor but not include anything else from our end that's more valuable than the Cleveland second rounder.

make Philly pay dearly if they want #1

Might want to ask for a unicorn while you're at it, because Philly ain't making that trade.

If Simmons is significantly more valuable than Ingram (to the degree that a lot of people in this thread believe Simmons to be better than Ingram) then moving up a spot to get him makes sense for the Sixers.

Granted, I think it's a lot more likely that Philly tries to move all their picks for current players than to move up in the draft.
