Told that the Celtics likely will pursue Durant, Perkins replied, "Boston and everybody else, right?" Later he added, "As a friend, I try not to talk to him too much about free agency. I always try to just want to talk to him about things outside of basketball. We talk about personal life and stuff like that. And I know he’s getting this question every day on the hour and stuff like that, so I try not to bother him.

"But he did shoot some teams out there that he made me sign a confidentiality form that I couldn’t tell nobody. He’s got a few teams that he will be looking at.”

Perkins was asked if he'd be surprised if Durant considered Boston.

"You’re trying to get me to really answer the question," Perkins said. "I can’t answer that. I want to, but I can’t. I mean, I don’t know. I do know, but I don’t know."

Perkins stressed that Oklahoma City's playoff performance this year likely will dictate Durant's decision.

"[The Thunder] win it all, he can’t leave, in my opinion," Perkins said. "But if they don’t, it might be time for a change."

Pressed again if he would lobby for Boston if Durant asked about the team, Perkins quipped, "I would tell him to come wherever I’m at."

Perkins said that he talks to Durant at least once per week and maintains a great relationship. Perkins takes pride in having "raised" Durant a bit during his time in Oklahoma City.

Might have to sign Perk as 15th man to lure Durant ,ha .

Well the thing is, that article cut one important sentence out:

They're (the Celtics) going to go after him. KD.

I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Perk is a great locker room guy. So many teammates seem to love him. Several of the Cavs veterans were mad that the team let him go, and we all saw how our chemistry collapsed when he was traded.

I was never happy about the busting up of the Celtics either ....I still think it was the wrong moment ...Rondo never was the same guy ....his attitude was effected forever.

Maybe so but that sure said a lot about Rondo.

I'd rather the celtics have good basketballers than good locker room guys.

Perkins was certifiably useless at the time of, and after the trade. Him speculating about where Durant might go as a pseudo insider is a pithy attempt to make himself relevant for 5 minutes in a league which should have crapped him out 2 years ago.

To say the celtics would have had a much better shot at a championship with THAT kendrick Perkins in the lineup is a loooong bow to draw.

Well, he's not a pseudo insider, he's an actual insider. He's Durant's trusted buddy, he'd know more about Durant's mindset than Woj. If they had conversations about which teams Durant should look at, there's no doubt that Perk would've had great things to say about the Celtics, and that Durant would've been listening closely. If Boston weren't on Durant's shortlist, I'm guessing Perk would've been chiller about the grilling, said something nice and vague about the Celtics to keep fans' doomed hope alive, etc. The way he was clutching his cards close to his chest tells me he felt a pressure not to reveal what he knows, which is that we're one of Durant's top choices. The Perk protests too much, lol.

Well, with that Perk the Thunder went 13-4 down the stretch, and made the WCF.

The Celts were on an 8-4 stretch with Perk before the trade (41-14 overall) and finished the season 15-12.

The Thunder played better after the trade, and the Celtics played worse. Those are facts.

I want to, but I can’t. I mean, I don’t know.

That should have Perk's lumbering thought process in brackets. "I want to, but I can't. [Oh ****, I said 'I want to'...now they'll know that I mean that I want to tell Boston, and the only reason I'd want to tell Boston is because it's good news...Kev's gonna be so mad at me...hmmm...think, Kendrick, think!] I mean, I don't know. [Wait, now I sound too fake, because of course I know, and you all know I know...****, Kendrick, you done messed up now. Fix it! Quick!] I do know, but I don't know."

Perk has really dropped off the planet a bit. I remember one year he was top of the league for FG%. I think that was 09 or 2010, during the big 3 era when no eyes were on him haha, and he had Rondo passing him a lot of easy buckets. Although not a great offensive player, he bought toughness and good inside defense, and I also was upset that he was traded. I do think Green was the better player, and neither side really won the trade...maybe OKC did in a slight margin for making the finals, but you can also argue cuz they had a core of Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka (before falling off the planet).

I ultimately at the end think it was a bad trade, cuz that totally ruined our chemistry, and it was too big of a gamble on Shaq's health. To this day, I kept saying, had that core been healthy, they definitely would've won the championship.

Nobody can convince me,

Rondo/Nate
Ray/Daniels
Pierce/Daniels
KG/Davis/JO
Shaq/Perk

couldn't have won. JO was a bad signing and was always injured, but at least having KG/Shaq/Perk in front of him kept him fresh

Let's see what happens with the Thunder in the playoffs first. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope they don't make the finals. I love KD and Westbrook. I feel like I'm betraying them as a fan.

Drawing the bow longer. The thunder got stomped in the WCF that year.

What was Perk's contribution to the thunder statistically and his share of wins? Net rating?
(Average Net Rating at the Thunder of -11 over his 4.5 seasons there.)

If we're in the business of talking facts.

Correlation doesn't imply causation. Especially when it comes to lumbering, slow, broken down roleplayers who play 20 minutes a game with Durant, Westbrook and Harden.
