I have said it all along on this blog, and maybe no one agrees with me, but I think Sullinger is the most talented all-around player on the Celtics roster.
Definitely disagree; even if you want to make the "he needs to have a lot of talent to overcome his physical limitations" argument, that applies double to IT.
Sullinger is an interesting player. His mid-range jumper (and occasionally his spot up three pointer) is a weapon. He's a good rebounder. In certain matchups (see thread title) his ability to post-up is useful. He's a good passer. His defense is quite solid for a none-too-agile, ground-bound, tough-to-move undersized center.
At the same time, his scoring efficiency is atrocious for a big man, and his continued lack of fitness means the concerns about his energy level playing late in games, and his ability to stay on the court, are ongoing.
Somebody out there will probably offer him a bunch of money this summer. It might even be the Celtics, though I'm hoping they'll find a way to upgrade the spot. If we could be sure Sully would give the Celtics another 3 or 4 seasons like this one, he'd definitely be worth $13 or 14 million a year in this cap environment, despite his limitations. He can provide some good value as long as his frontcourt partner is somebody springier who can finish inside. The question, of course, is will his back / foot issues come up again?
I still think I'd prefer to offer him a short term deal, if the Celts re-sign him at all.
