And Sully too for that matter. No more talk about Turner being a bust at #2 overall, I'm taking to the sportscasters mostly. The guy is clutch and loves the big moments, we need that this year and we'll need him next year.

We must resign him, we might have to spend a little more than what we'd like but too bad, he's staying now.

It's been a love/hate relationship for us with him, but this year it's definitely more love than hate. If he would take a discount to stay in Boston I'm down to keep him. Sully, is good, his situation is based more whether we have a chance at an upgrade at his position or not.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Depends on how much he wants from us this summer. I personally wouldn't go past 8-9 million for Turner.

You let turner go - you best replace what he brings - or take a step back

There is NOT another player on the roster that does what he do

He's absolutely a keeper on the team right now until a better option/trade presents itself. If he decides to walk in the Summer so be it but he is integral for the team this season.

The positive thing is that he has publically stated that he wants to return in the summer:
Quote
Turning to acknowledge Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, who had made the trip to Columbus, Turner said, "Oh, Danny Ainge, thanks for coming. In July, you can pay me all you want."
I think the outcome will definitely be money. I can see the Knicks being dumb enough to overpay for Turner, which might signify the end of his time in Green.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
 I don't have a problem paying Turner something like 4 or 5 years x 10 million.
Giving him something long and enormous will probably be the best way to retain him on the cheap.

I think if he was offered $50-55 million over 5 years with a team option on the 5th year, he'd be a Celtic for a long time.
If he could develop to just a 30% 3 point shooter his contract would be one of the best in the league.

He's impressed me so much with his defensive improvement over the past 2 years.
He came in as a below average defender and now he's a very good defender.

He's a little bit like our own version of Iguadala, except not as good defensively but more potent on offense and is a great versatile 6th man.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

the numbers will have a lot to do with it. We can't over pay on either, on emotion. But yes, I'd like to have both back, unless we have a shot at a super star.

He's not taking a discount, why should he? Pay the man, we'll be poorer without him. $10-12m is what it'll take I think

We need to take the pulse of top FA's and gauge their interest in Boston. Much as I'd love to bring Turner back, it would be a shame if retaining him kept us from signing a max FA either this year or next. The ideal scenario in my mind, assuming we don't have a better use for the cap space this summer, would be to give him 1yr/$15m with a team option. Retain flexibility for summer '17.

Get ready to break out the checkbook.

Nick Batum just got a 4 year 46 million dollar contract.

That's probably the starting point for what Turner will ask for.

Tristan Thompson just got 5 years, 82 million from the Cavs, so Sullinger may just be out of the Celtic's Price range unless they want to pay him between 15 and 20 million per season.

Turner and Sullinger have to be secondary priorities for us only if we can't get top tier free agents to come here. With all the liquidity in the free agent market this offseason, I could see Turner getting something like 4 years/$36 million and Sullinger 4 years/$48 million offers. His weight might keep Sullinger's offers down from the 4 years/$50-60 million area. We only have $21 million in salary commitments right now for the 2017-2018 season and the cap will go up again so if we fail with top tier free agents it probably makes sense to bring both back at those prices. If we could get away with an overpay for one year, that would be even better.

Turner knows he improved his level because of Brad and his teammates.
Danny believed in him to be part of something big.
Turner would be stupid to accept better money somewhere else.
40mil / 5 years should be fair.
As for Sully, sorry he's not irreplaceable (Turner and KO are somehow unique and difficult to replace). Plus his conditioning will be a concern with years passing. I won't pay 12 to 15mil for Sully. I would prefer he's in shape and pay him 18mil.
