This is the "Upside" pick gone terribly wrong. Arguably a much bigger miss than Gianni's because Kelly has great value in this leauge.

Someone please post his post all star break stats.

For the season 5.6 3pa per game on .365%

Avg 14.6 ppg and .870% from the line.

I've seen him go for 30 plus points many times this year, when he's hot he makes a huge difference. For all the people that want Jaylen Brown or Bender over Buddy Hield. James Young over Rodney Hood should make you think long and hard about that.

Hes scored 30 points twice in his career.

Since the all star break he is averaging 14/3/3 on 43/37/84 shooting.

Im assuming hes still bad at defense but I really dont know.

He's a nice player, but he wouldn't start for us. Bradley's a better 2 and Crowder's a better 3. I'm not sure it would be worth bumping Turner's minutes for him either.

He's not a Celtic. None of this speculation matters. Moot point.

Plus the only reason he was/is getting minutes was injuries....

Yeah, Hood is a quality NBA player, Young probably isn't.

I think the idea that Hood would be the second best scorer on the Celts is a dubious one, but I guess we don't know for sure either way.

The Young pick was a swing for the fences that ended up as a strike.  Missing Hood (and Capela, and Garry Harris) with that pick is a bummer, but hardly make-or-break for this team.

At least Ainge didn't waste the pick by going for an older zero-IQ project big like Fab Melo.

Yeah, but he went with a Zero IQ guard in James Young. I knew Hood was better at that time, but was sold on Young's Upside and "length" after the draft.

And BTW Hood has shorter arms and is a better shooter, coincidence, I think not!

I don't know. I'm still high on young. He still has the capability to be a great 3 and D wing. His measurables and athleticism is perfect for that role. He's only gonna be 21 at the beginning of next season. I am gonna hold out on any failure talk until he is at least 23.

Am I alone in believing Young also doesn't have luck in that he is behind Crowder, Turner and Smart for SF minutes? BS isn't really making an effort to play Young much at all. 2 mins here or there doesn't really help a player.

Your still high on Young? Bahahahaha!

You know what the crazy thing is Young has longer arms, but Hood is taller and twice the athlete Young will ever be. Better athlete+ better shooter=much better player.

Rodney Hood was a huge steal for the Jazz. He's a good scorer who can run the pick and roll, and he's a good defender.  He's got a good handle, and he's really intelligent (which might be what separates him from Young?)

If he keeps playing this bad, then he won't even be in the league at the age of 23.

Playing badly? He isn't even playing. It's very difficult to gauge his level of play because we don't see him.
What I would say is that if he is as bad as some suggest why has Danny not shipped him out yet? The extra roster spot would have helped us out at the start of the season and leading up to the trade deadline. With the extra roster spot there would have been much more flexibility on some of the trades that were being considered.
DA still thinks there is potential in this kid and as such I am willing to wait and see

Well the reason why he isn't playing is most likely because he doesn't produce anything when he's on the court. I think it's wrong to say that he isn't even playing, because he has more chances to showcase himself this season compared to last year. He played 22 minutes against OKC 6 games ago, and it was honestly one of the worst performances I have ever seen from Young while he has been on this team.
One of Young's strengths is supposedly scoring the basketball, but he can't even do that, which is why I think he's playing badly. I would be glad if he proved me wrong, but I have personally lost faith in him.

He's playing really well for the Jazz but theres something about him that I am still not completely sold on. He wouldn't be starting here and would probably be in an 8th or 9th man role. His numbers with us wouldn't be what they are in Utah.

Good for him though. Hope he keeps up the success.
