The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics discussed a Kevin Love trade at the deadline, but talks died when Danny Ainge only offered a low-ball package David Griffin wouldn't consider.

The Cavaliers could revisit a trade of Love in the offseason if they don't win the title.

The Celtics would be the favorites as they have enough assets to make an attractive offer for Love without gutting their team.

Seemed like this past trade deadline was the time to come in with low ball offers to establish a basement to deal off of. Sounds like same thing happens with Okafor and 76ers. Now come draft day DA can call back and rekindle fires.

I wonder what the "low-ball" offer was.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Wish it worked out, but I imagine the low ball offer was something along the lines of the Mav's pick/our pick and Lee.. can't blame the Cav's for saying no.
Here are my bold predictions:
1) Cavs lose to the Raptors
2) Cavs blow it up and Ainge finally gets Love. We also sign Horford in Free Agency. I'd guess Love will cost us something along the lines of the Brooklyn pick/KO and Bradley?
3) Celictsblog.com forum will explode with death to Ainge posts for trading the Brooklyn pick for Kevin Love.

I really hope we get Love, I think under the right coach he returns to his true form a 20 and 10 guy on a nightly basis. Also he and Thomas would be unstoppable on the pick and roll.

I would guess Amir + Jonas to match contracts, and non-BRK draft pick(s).

Doesn't come as a big surprise that Danny inquired about Love. Seems like something he's probably done a few times before and will continue to do.

Everybody is going to try and get the Justice Winslow package from here on out though.

There is no way Boston only offered the Mavs pick + Lee.  Danny would lose all credibility around the league because that is a totally and utterly ridiculous trade proposal.

I'd rather have Ainge lowballing the Cavs on Love than offering a ridiculous overpay for him.

This. With possible options on throw ins like T Rozier, J Young, and RJ Hunter and maybe a 2nd  rounder

I said Mavs Pick/Our Pick and Lee.. but even with that you're probably right. But if you add Sullinger or Amir to the mix is that really considered a "low ball" offer?

Sure Cavs went high and C's went low as neither team was really pushing for a mid season trade. My guess is Cavs asked for AB, Crowder, Sully, Dallas and Nets pick. Then C's went Smart, AJ, Turner, Dallas and C's 1st round picks.

I'm not so sure he'd be offering the Cavs a 'youth' package.

Guessing the Cavs wanted one of our wings and Ainge countered with Lee/AB or maybe even Amir/AB, but no picks.

At this point, Love might be more effective to the C's staying in Cleveland & mucking up their defense...

I wouldn't consider that a low ball offer either. Smart, Amir, Turner and 2 first round picks? I feel like the Cavs would be crazy to say no to that offer.

Agreed - no way Cleveland would have said no to that package.  Smart defends the tougher guard freeing up Kyrie to focus on offense.  Amir and Turner are more-than-serviceable vets to add to that team.  add 2 firsts into the deal for a PF that's not performing up to expectations on offense or the boards and is a defensive sieve --> Cleveland would have been foolish to turn that down.

I think the C's would be foolish to offer either deal though.
The first one costs them their starting SG, their starting SF, their best rebounder and the top 2 picks they have in this upcoming draft including a top-5 pick.
The second isn't a killer in terms of cost of overall talent but costs them their 2 primary back up ballhandlers, starting C and doesn't thin out the PF ranks but adds to them instead.  This trade's a problem for me in consideration of roster balance going forward.
