I'm not at all disappointed we missed out on Gordon.  I'm still not much (if any) higher on him now then I was on draft day.  As far as I can see his ceiling is a poor man's Thadeus Young.

Not especially intrigued.

You must be jokin

Why must I be "jokin"?

When I've watched him play I see "role player" written all over him.  In fact I see a lot of Amir Johnson in him, just minus the toughness.  I don't see him looking like anything resembling a transcendent player.  I just don't see the skill set for him to ever be a special player.

Not denying he looks better than Smart right now, but he's not somebody I am going to cry over missing out on.

You are missing the details. They are still the young team alao. Aaron Gordon has top level explosiveness, IQ and motor. He does alot more than shows up in stats

So does Smart aside from the explosiveness.

yeah. But that explosiveness is big.  Look at Aaron Gordon's offensive stats vs Smart's this year. Plus Gordon is rebounding, blocking shots, stealing the ball too. Even a better 3 pt shooter (which is kind of sad)

I like Smart alot but the Magic took the right risk grabbing AG at 4 (unless Embiid goes off next season)

Parker goes 2nd. Easy pick there.

Exum may end up being the guy at 3. That guy has incredible quickness with amazing handles.

Huh. I don't think Parker's shown much.

I mean, Gordon is a better 3 point shooter right now and on another level as a defender. Parker's a jump shooter who can't hit 3s or defend - which is pretty much the opposite of what the current NBA game values.

Exum hasn't even shown that he's a legit NBA player yet at either end of the floor. You can talk about potential but he's older than Gordon.

More important, you guys might as well give up here because Triboy and I are in agreement for the first time ever on this blog. I can feel the icy winds of hell from here.

You can revisit this thread in a couple years.

Parker has finally been getting his basketball legs back and has shown a ton. Do you watch their games or are you going off of a couple games you've seen? Hard to believe anyone can not see Parker as a future all star after watching his recent play.

Parker is playing better recently, you're right. I hadn't quite appreciated it until I looked at the numbers.

If that's as far as you can see, you need to get your eyes checked.   ;)

Too bad he can't shoot threes or play defense.

4 - Jaylen Brown
12 - Deyonta Davis
23 - Diamond Stone
31 - Dejounte Murray (BTW, nbadraft.net has him going 10th)
35 - Cheik Diallo
50 - Andrey Desyatnikov (keep in Europe)
58 - Rade Zagorac (keep in Europe)

I'd try to package 31 and 35 to move up into the upper 20's to get one of the Euro's for draft and stash purposes (Cordinier, Hernangomez, Cornelie).  Might also look at moving back from 4 and/or up from 12 and getting Poeltl around 8 (either by dropping back or moving up).  I really like Poeltl in that 8 spot, think that is great value.

nbadraft.net and draftexpress.com have vastly different mock drafts at this point.  Tells me the draft isn't very good on the whole, so trying to consolidate as many picks as possible makes sense and if keeping the picks, I think the goal should be to take flyers on high risk/high reward players or draft and stash players.
I like who you selected and completely agree with the idea of targeting a foreign player via trade because we certainly can't have 5 rookies on the team.

I don't think that comparing draft.net and draftexpress is indicative of anything except that nbadraft.net is not great at predicting things. The 3 best mocks are done by draftexpress, CBS' Sam Veccinie and ESPN's Chad Ford.

If you look at the second chart, post-lottery, nbadraft was actually more accurate than draftexpress by a fairly wide margin in the RMSE.

So the lottery is clearly won by draftexpress but after that they tail behind the other three (Ford, Vecenie, nbadraft).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Going by Ford's big board

Brooklyn pick-
His top 5 picks are (in order) Simmons, Ingram, Bender, Murray, and Hield. So as long as we get a top 5 pick we're assured of one of them.

Dallas pick-
His 10-16 are Poeltl, Rabb, Davis, Korkmaz, Valentine, Sabonis, and Labissiere.

Celtics pick-
Draft and stash guys- Jeanne (ranked #24) and Zizic (ranked #26).

4. Buddy Hield - LOVE this kid. Mark my words, he's the next big time scorer in Boston
12. Timothe Luwawu - Good size for a wing, excellent jumper, killer mentality, young, draft and stash
24. Damian Jones
31. Grayson Allen
35. Jonanthan Jeanne (draft and stash)

One starter, two draft and stash

12. Skal would also be nice here, high ceiling but worry about his motor/strength

1A. Buddy Hield 6'4 SG
1B. Damontas Sabonis 6'10 PF/C
2A. Zhou Qi 7'2 C

I'd trade our other picks away for future picks or assets.

Not sure where you're getting this.   Here's the summary of all their findings:

"Looking at the ratings, the “winner” is DraftExpress by a hair over CBS Sports’ Vecenie and Ford. Vecenie was solid overall, but killed everyone with the last 16 picks of the 1st round. NBADraft.net was the only other true competitor, as SBNation didn’t even pick the second round and the others’ ratings were too far off. Since Ford and DraftExpress performed well last year, we can say they deserve their reputations, and their last minute corrections give them a leg up on other mock drafts that are only posted once or update more sporadically."

My mock:

4 Hield
12 Chriss ( Luwawu looks intriguing, but don't know enough about him)
22 Zubac (Draft and stash)
31 Cornelie (Draft and stash)
35 Zipser (Draft and stash)
50 Bentil
55 Zagorac (Draft and stash)

Going through this makes me realize how little I know.  I'm all aboard the draft and stash train, because I think there's more value there (as in having more lottery tickets) than in using those picks to make marginal upgrades in our draft position.

I basically only like Simmons, Ingram, Hield and Luwawu at this point.  I would take Dunn if we unfortunately drafted 7th, but now I'm basically like if we aren't drafting one of those 4 at an appropriate spot, then just trade the pick.
