Rondo9,

I'm not knocking Hield but he's going to be 23 and he's not a potential top 5 player like the two guys at the top of the draft can be.

I won't be disappointed with Hield but he's not at Ingram's level and he only has about 8-9 years so he better come in ready to contribute right away. Ingram can be a 12 year plus star for the Celts.

Play the rookies, certainly not a loss I'm gonna lose sleep over, but if you think that winning tonight has a big impact on the Brklyn pick, think again

There’s a 13% chance that throwing the game would ultimately move Brooklyn out of a tie with Phoenix and into the 3rd spot on their own. There’s an 11% chance that it would move Brooklyn from one win more than Phoenix into a tie. If we apply those odds to the value of each change we find that intentionally throwing tonight’s game would be worth about the value of the 55th overall pick in the draft, or 0.13 win shares total over the next five seasons.

Tanking is dead. But for one night the tankers and their sick wish to root against the Celtics are resurrected. I hope the Celtics beat the Suns by 50. Then the tankers can crawl back into their holes.

I'm rooting for the C's tonight (partially because I think Phoenix can still beat out the Nets by winning OTHER games), but your logic is pretty flawed.

I'm not rooting for the Suns tonight. The Suns are really bad, and a loss would not bode well for our playoff chances, nor for our FA chances this summer.

You think a loss at Phoenix would hurt our chance at attracting free agents this offseason?  LOL

There isn't a massive difference between the #3 and #4 worst records. A 9% difference in top-3 odds and a 4% difference in #1 odds.
A 9% chance for a top 3 pick and 4% at #1 is a pretty big swing for one game.

... and there's good odds that this game will make no difference at all.
There's as much of a chance that one loss for the C's will make no difference at all.

How valuable, really, is a 1% extra chance at Ingram?

Where do you get 1%.

Again, I'm still rooting for the C's tonight, just find your logic to be kind of biased.

1. Our odds in FA are better if we get the 3rd seed than if we get the 6th seed, and they are better if we get to round 2 than if we don't.
2. Okay, but
3. There is a much lower chance that the loss will mean nothing for the C's, as we are competing with three teams for seeding vs. just one for the Suns
4. 1%=4% divided by two because of the tiebreak, divided by two again because there's a good chance that the game makes no difference at all.

Thanks for that.  I was pretty certain that all of the permutations added up to very little.

  • GOT IT!!!
I'm rooting for the Suns tonight.

The Suns winning or losing against us could be the difference between Ingram or Hield.

Some difference huh  ::)

The C's are winning tonight OP. They'll get a good player in the draft or they'll trade the pick. Tonight is no big deal.

you are responding to the same guy that thinks we should Tank and miss the playoffs.

I say beat the PHO out of Phoenix.

I never said that.
Why do you lie?

Yeah, you kind of did.

The Brooklyn pick is already in the lottery.
Dallas and Boston could easily fall out of the playoffs with the injuries to Parsons and Crowder.
I kind of hope it happens.

Cant abide by tankers.

I get the fear of the Atlanta Hawks style decade of "pretty good" basketball, and I never had to live through the post Bird era doldrums, but come on let's give Danny Ainge some credit. He's made all of the right moves. Traded our coach!! and snatched up a potentially championship level replacement, sold off all of our assets before they lost value and invested in future picks and undervalued players.

On top of all of this he crippled a division rival on an upswing in the Nets, while keeping good will other executives by helping to fix the Clippers(not too mention turning the Lakers into an afterthought). This rebuild has been masterful so far and he didn't have to sell our dignity in the process. I'll take that over a 13/69 season and Jahleel Okafor any day.

Well, you have to apply your same probability logic to the FA argument as well.

Odds that a loss impacts standings * odds that a lower seeding impacts our ability to get to the second round * Odds that a prospective FA holds is against us.

I think overall a 9% chance of a top 3 pick has much better benefit to the Celtics, long-term, than seeding positioning between 3-6.  Players know who Brad Stevens is .... a first round loss won't tarnish that.  Plus, I don't think they are going to lose in the first round even if they are the 6th seed.  So, there's that.

Again, C's are going to crush Phoenix tonight, so this is a moot point anyway.

Correction. Sold off all of our assets AFTER they lost value but somehow got peak value ;-)

Play James Young.
Have Marcus shoot a lot of threes.
Rest IT.

We might loose .....but I can assure you Stevens has no intention of tanking ANY game .

If all he has is the water boy and Pom Pom girls for a team ....he will be game for a win.

Yes but shooters usally can hang aroung longer like Reggie and Ray did.
