Hence why I'm saying Sabonis is a good fit

Also Hart.  And skal plays with a chip on his shoulders though he has some ways to go (adding strength especially)

If by "chip on his shoulders" you mean stands around looking lost, totally agree.

??

He looked lost at the start but calipari used him incorrectly. He even admit it himself

Much better in the 2nd half

I encourage you to watch the game vs LSU.  Simmons vs skal

I saw the first one, didn't see much then.  Skal did get better, but was still prone to drifting around watching the game.  In no way did I see a player with a "chip on his shoulder".  Certainly flashed signs of the skills that make him appealing, but has so far to go.

Anyway, back to the original subject, Sabonis.

I thought this was very interesting:
https://twitter.com/CelticsHub/status/740603321740824576

Domantas Sabonis said he's only going to workout for four teams total: Boston, Utah, Phoenix and Toronto.

Triboy, what do you think of this? Looks like his draft range is 9-16, which matches up with most mocks.

Celtics- 3,16,23
Utah- 12
Phoenix- 4,13
Toronto, 9,27
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Sounds to me like he got a promise from the Celtics to take him at 16 if he's available.

I like Sabonis a lot, and I would down with it if Danny took him at #16, but I am skeptical that Danny would give out a draft promise.   Especially in this draft where there is a realistic chance that someone who you might rank in the top 10 on your own board could slip down to the #16.

There is just way too much variance in mocks and rankings out there.   It just doesn't seem like something Danny would do.

Agreed, not to mention the possibility of trading that pick.

Murray and sabonis will workout for only 4 teams.  Each picked the Celtics as one of the teams

I would be happy to grab both

For sabonis we may have to move up

Jazz are interested to trade their 1st round pick (rumor)

Celtics could also trade 3 and 16 to Suns for 4 and 13 (and still grab murray and have a better chance to pick sabonis)

Its a bummer that he won't workout for his father's previous teams.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I really like Sabonis-he'd bring some added toughness inside, especially if Sully leaves. Sabonis is a worker who will work hard to improve his jumpshot.
I kinda think we need to swing bigger at #16 than Sabonis though. Like try and move up to #13 or #12 and go after someone with a bit more star potential like Deytona Davis.
If we keep #16 I'd have Sabonis in my top 3 after Damian Jones and Luwawu.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I expect Toronto to take him because they need a power forward.

Strongly agree. We need to swing for the fences with all of our picks, imo. I'd go with Murray at #3 and am a big fan of Jones -- most mocks have him available at 23, though that seems unrealistic to me. If necessary, I'd take a flyer on him at #16. I also like Diallo and McCaw at #23 and #31 for the same reason. We don't need any more role players... and while these guys make take several years to develop, if one or two pan out to be above average starters, they'll fit our likely timeline for contention.

I really hope they do. The thought of going against sabonis for years is an awesome thought. Especially if we can somehow acquire a good athletic skilled PF.

Chad Ford has Sabonis' draft range as 8-14

Yes. Shot ball well. Looked more explosive. Range is 8 to 14 I think. - @chadfordinsider

this is why I was hoping Danny draft Sabonis :(

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZgwmbxr9M8

His rebounding is coming along and is shooting the long ball at a nice rate.   Does not look like a 20 year old out on the floor

Should have traded down... the 8th, 11th picks were up for grabs .
