The Mavs are up 1 game on the Utah Jazz with a few weeks left in the season. Mavs SF Chandler Parson is likely to under go season-ending knee surgery. It sucks for Parson to go down to another knee injury but it's good for the C's draft pick. Hopefully this helps Mavs fall out of the playoff race and into the lottery. Something to keep our eyes on over the upcoming weeks.

Obviously, injuries do suck but that is a very big development in regards to the Celtics pick.

Indeed. I would say he is/was the most important player on that team right now so that hurts.

They are also really weak at the 3/swingman spot which will hurt them. That's what happens when you have 8 point guards and 7 power forwards on your team.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

A lot more just fell on Dirk's shoulders.

He's in a contract year, but another knee injury is going to hurt his stock and likely cost him plenty of money.

I feel bad for Parsons.  He was one of my favorite players in the league a few seasons ago, but injuries have derailed him.

I think he's gonna have to transition to playing as a 4 on a team with a big center, like the Pistons.  Less cutting and moving.

Chandler Parsons is likely to undergo season-ending surgery this week to address a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Parsons, who sources say will receive a second opinion before scheduling an operation, is expected to be fully recovered in time to resume his regular offseason basketball-workout routine.

This would be the second consecutive season that Parsons' season ends prematurely because of surgery on his right knee.

The injury is not nearly as severe as the cartilage damage he suffered last season that was repaired with a hybrid microfracture procedure on May 1. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/241295/Chandler-Parsons-Likely-To-Undergo-Season-Ending-Knee-Surgery

This should improve the Celtics chances of getting a Maverick's lottery pick

Wonder if Mavs tank hard to catch the 7th pick. They are 8 games out of that slot. 2-10 possible?

but doesn't this also assume that other teams win virtually every game?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Yeah -- if the Mavs started losing games, it would be to increase the chance they win the lottery and hop into the top 3 to avoid giving up the pick.  But even getting to the 9th slot carries only a 7.1 percent chance to move to the top 3, compared with a 2.4% chance at 12, which is most likely where they'd finish if the miss the playoffs.  I'd have to think that trying to make the playoffs is better choice than purposefully losing the last dozen games in a likely unsuccessful chance to avoid conveying a pick.

Things are working out beautifully for the celtics. The suns remaining schedule is easy while the Nets is brutal. Suns almost upset the grizzlies last night too.

As for the Mavs I see them just missing the playoffs to the Jazz. So in theory we could end up with the 12th pick from the Mavs and at least a top 5 pick from the Nets.

Yes the Kings would have to win 90% of the remaining games. But don't tell Mavs that let them try lol.

I'm sure most/none of us would wish an injury on any player (lbj nor kobe when he mattered) but now that it has happened, I can hope that no one steps up in his place or that the team rallies around the loss and find ways to win some games. This is the time for Justin Anderson to try and step up, he's a rookie but he is 22, should have a little more polish than younger guys. Heck, I always looked at Dallas' roster over the years and was always perplexed that they continued to win at a high level, even their low this year, isn't terrible. I wouldn't bank on them falling out, even now, but I sure hope for it!! They haven't played well for a while now but it's nearly the time when the playoff teams will slack, Dallas has the talent to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in those instances.

edit: this is why i had a high grade in english but cant write for ish, school system is broken! LOL
