I think if Turner ends up leaving it will be because we spent al of our money on two max free agents.  While I like Turner more than the average person, I'd be fine with that.

To get and fit the best free agents we can, a number of players and/or picks are going to need to go the other way. Unfortunately a player like ET is good enough (and still has potential to improve) to be attractive to other teams but still be expendable to a Celtics roster looking to be a Championship contender. ET does play an often under appreciated role in the current line up. If he goes then a ball handler will be needed on the other side of the accounts ledger. Rozier is not ready to be that player on a contending team.

Turner was a huge bargain for C's. He should go out and get as much $ as he can. Good luck Turner.

the funny thing is, how much of turners comeback is due to brad stevens system? He could easily revert to the player he was previously on another team in another system.

reminds me of these NFL players who are mediocre on other teams, come play for belicheck where he puts them in a position to succeed and they flourish. then every team in the league comes salivating offering them big money deals only to watch them fail again on their team.

All you detractors do realize how huge Turner has been for us?

I'd say there's a bit of realism here.  Ainge's first goal will be to acquire two max players this summer.  If he does so, the most he can pay Turner would be the Early Bird exception.  It's unclear what that will be, but probably no more than $6.5 million in year 1.  Virtually every team has a lot of cap room this summer, so it's very easy to conceive of a team offering more than that.  This will likely be the biggest contract ET ever signs, so who are we to expect him to take less to stay in Boston?  He would be missed by many, but presumably the guys coming in on max deals will more than make up for his loss, as that's why they're max players.

If we strike out with max players, I fully expect Turner to be back, unless it takes us so long to miss out on said max players that Turner has already gone elsewhere.  Which would totally stink.

Turner deserves to get paid, he's playing well and has been a valuable asset to this team. I think we'd have 4-6 more losses this year without his contribution on the court, which could end up being the difference of us making or missing the playoffs.
As others have mentioned Ainge's top priority should be upgrading talent, if he strikes out doing so I think we need to focus on developing the youth. Getting into contract wars to retain Turner does not help either of those scenarios.
If he is willing to stay for a bargain, then great. Considering he only makes 3.5 million now I can't see him taking a pay cut on what could be his last chance for a significant raise.

It doesn't matter. Money talks

Turner is seeking the max as possible as it could be his last long term deal.  Celts I doubt will give what he wants or match what other teams are ready to overpay

I predict the Knicks will take Turner and Sullinger away from the Celts

But we will make it up through the draft/fa

Horford -  4 years at 72 million
Draft - Hield ,Murray or Valentine with one of our picks.

Horford
KO
Crowder
AB
IT

Amir
Mickey/Jerebko/draft pick
Draft pick/FA
Hield/Murray/Valentine

Nah don't buy that.  Maybe he won't be as good (he is a guy that benefits a lot from playing with quality players because he needs spacing) but he has gotten a lot better.  Before this year Turner used to frusterate me a lot making awful plays like jumping before he even knew where he wanted to pass.  He really tightened up his game to focus on his strengths and plays in control.  He is also a legitimate defender now.

So wouldn't be shocked if he was worse in NY if he went there, but that'd be because the team.  Big credit to Turner he has gotten better.

I like him but I just don't see how we can justify bringing him back given how the roster looks now with young ball handlers who need their chances.

Yeah, that'd make sense.

4 years, 72 million for Horford is laughable.  He is getting at least 20 million a year if not 25 or more.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

A VERY likely scenario is we attract 0 big name FA's and either 1.) spend that money and overpay Turner or 2.) Let him walk since he asks for too much and still attract 0 FA's.

If we strike out on the big names, I wouldn't mind him coming back on a Amir/JJ type contract maybe even a 2+1 instead of 1+1 to make it more appealing. As someone else said, Smart and Rozier don't look capable of running a bench offense full time. If they do? Trade Turner to a team that wanted him during the offseason.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

He's a okay band-aid to a lot of lineup issues the C's have due to his ability to handle and guard SFs. But he's still not a very good player at any aspect.

I won't be sorry to lose him, though obviously if our replacement plan fails to deliver it could be rough adjusting next season.

Whatever crazy money deal he commands in this inflated off season market I would not want a part of.

Analysts are talking of Kent Bazemore getting $10 million, so I think things are going to get really strange till our expectations adjust to the new cap.

I'd be OK with the Celts being a little worse next year if it's because they move on from Turner and use his minutes to develop somebody younger, with more long term upside, in his role.

Somebody who can play that backup ballhandler, creative scorer role while also getting to the line and hitting open three pointers could really make a difference.

Assuming there's not a major trade where we lose wing depth, I'm not a very big fan of keeping Turner unless it's on a very team friendly deal.

That's not a knock on him.  He's been good.  But he is hurting Smart's development, he's keeping all of our youngsters out of the rotation, and clearly he's not the go-to scorer that we need at one of the wing spots.
