I am not too worried about Smart launching from 3.
the team has done the same with Sullinger last year.
At some point he will be instructed how to play and when to shoot, but for now let him gain experience and shoot.
This year is a combination of trying to win and letting our youngs grow.

My concern with Smart is that he's gonna have to become better than a 30% three point shooter to make it in the league as more than a defensive specialist off the bench.  He's been compared to Tony Allen a lot, but Smart has a long way to go to become the kind of finisher TA is even now at age 34.

Sullinger, on the other hand, has always had enough of an inside and mid-range game to be a decent player for at least 24-28 minutes a game, even if he never took a three pointer.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

That's a fair point.

Been saying this for a while now. Rozier just has skills you can't teach. Dribbling is the hardest thing to improve upon for a basketball player. Rozier has those skills along with his elite athleticism. Oh by the way, Ainge and Stevens have said on numerous occasions Rozier is a very good defender. So he is most likely going to be better than Smart.

What has Smart shown? Let's be honest here. His defense is great, but it's useless against great teams. You need a taller player to make that type of impact against elite teams. Like Phosita said, he is going to be a bench player if he can't improve his shot. I wish people would hold Smart more accountable on this site. He was the 6th overall pick after all. We should be expecting him to improve on offense, not get worse like he did this year.

I would have settled for McDermott for our 5th pick on draft night :-)

I liked Rozier from draft, but this thread can't be serious...

Let's see Rozier take 20+ mins for a good number of games and then we can ask this kind of questions.

I wish I had a nickel for every stupid Smart hater out there. Why can't he get any respect? There's a reason that the C's are one of the best defensive teams in the league with a frontcourt rotation featuring Sully, Olynyk and Zeller.

IMHO Smart is better right now (due to experience) but Rozier has more potential and will have a better career.

Actually that frontcourt rotation mainly features Sully, Amir Johnson and Kelly Olynyk - all of whom are excellent team defenders.

The team also features Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder, two of the leagues better perimeter defenders.

Trying to give Smart (as a backup PG) all of the credit for that is cute, but unrealistic.  Smart is a very talented defender with huge potential on that end of the floor, but he's still only a fairly modest part of the whole picture here.
