I don't buy it.
I didn't buy it before I read any of the article, and I stopped reading after seeing his first two examples: a Philly team that's absolute dog doo, and an awful player in Hibbert.
If your team has the best shooter in the world (Curry) or the best all-around player in the world (LeBron), then you can win a title without a really good, back-to-the-basket big. Otherwise, you need someone who can go down into the post and be effective, especially in the playoffs, which tend to be slower-paced, halfcourt, grinder kinds of games. Boston had KG, Lakers had Gasol and Odom, Mavs had Dirk and Chandler, Spurs had Duncan. So unless the Celtics acquire the next generation's greatest player (like a LeBron or Curry), they're going to need a big who can do damage down low.
