- durant is in fact finding stage , teams he is interested in GSW, SAS and Bos

- people around him says he is interested in bos

- going to the east makes path to finals easier

- wants team with stability (coach , ownership, financial flexibilty

- OKC leader to sign him

- Durant is signing a 1 year deal no matter where he goes next year, because he can get more in 2017

- Bird rights help OKC trying to retain him, says they can sign other free agents and then use bird rights to re-sign Durant,( is this true? I thought you couldn't do that?

- Doesn't think Durant is interested in Washington Wizards, they are a mess outside the playoff picture

more to come......

- There is a chance c's can sign him , perception on c's ability to sign a star has changed because of brad stevens and danny's ability to run an organization .

- Glenn Ordway says he has talked to people around the organization in the past 24 hours that has made him think its a possibility that durant signs with c's

ok thats it

So I wonder what the odds are that Durant signs a one year deal with OKC (especially if they have a really good playoff run this year), only to test free agency again in 2017.

That way, his contract lines up with Westbrook and Ibaka.  I know the players know it's a business, but its still got to be hard to leave your buddies behind who you've spent the last 7-8 years going to war with.  That core has been together a long time.  But if you're all free agents at the same time, then it's not like you're abandoning your friends.

So if Durant signs a one year deal with OKC, do the C's save the cap room for next year?  Do you still try to bring in Horford?  Or maybe just sign players to a bunch of one year or Amir Johnson style deals to go after Durant and somebody else in 2017 (which is a much better free agent class).

On the flip side, OKC can turn into the '99 Bulls after they lost Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman all at the same time.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Tp for giving me the cliff notes.

I think he goes back to OKC for a year, but if we can get a meeting this summer it makes it more likely he signs with us in 2017.

The whole point of Bird rights is that they are a cap exception, so sometimes you can use them to sign one of your players and go over the salary cap after signify free agents.  However, in this case, that is not how they work (in all likelihood).  In order to use Bird rights, you need to keep a cap hold for the player, which is based on his prior year salary.  Because Durant currently makes so much, his cap hold would equal what his max salary could be, unless the salary cap comes in significantly higher than forecast (I'm talking 10s of millions higher, not 3-5 like some people think).  So while it is possible to use Bird rights to go over the cap after using cap room on other free agents, that is only true when you are paying the player more than his cap hold.  This is what we did with Crowder last year (his cap hold was $1.1 million and he's getting paid about $6.6 million this year, so we waited weeks to officially sign him while we used our cap money).  On the other hand, it's not what we did with Jerebko, who had a cap hold of $9.5 million but signed for only $5 million.

they mentioned during the telecast last night that he is likely going to sign a one year with OKC to give him and Westbrooke one last shot. That would make them both FA's in 2017 and gives them the option to stay together or call it quits.
The only way I don't see him signing is if they get eliminated early this year.. after the display they put on last night I just don't see that happening.

How could he go to SA? Salary wise it doesn't work unless they move someone like Parker, Green, Manu, Diaw. Would have to be multiple core guys. Then where would he play? SF and PF are the strongest positions on that team. GSW makes more sense.

Heard on WEEI that most likely he'll re-up for 1 year in OKC and see what Westbrook ends up doing for his final year.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

The basic answer is no, not true.  You can't wait to sign your own player last with the idea that you will go over the salary cap to sign him because of cap holds.  In other words, even though Durant will not be under contract, his cap hold will count against OKC's salary cap anyway until they sign him or renounce him.  So no accounting tricks will open up more room for OKC.

Rival executives believe the San Antonio Spurs will explore ways in which they can sign Kevin Durant in free agency.

The Spurs signed LaMarcus Aldridge to a max contract in free agency last offseason with their cap gymnastics such as trading away Tiago Splitter and then signing Danny Green, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili to under fair market value contracts.

San Antonio would have to figure out how to play Durant with Kawhi Leonard despite the fact they play the same position. The Spurs could play big with Durant and Leonard as the two wings, or play small with those two players as the forwards to move Aldridge to center.

Trading away Green could be necessary to create enough cap space for Durant.
