IT is important ....very important

But the teams energy and defense is based on Crowder and his knack for making the right play at the right time .    Very clutch ..if not with a shot , some defensive play, pass , or other game changer .

His absence is simular in ways when Pierce was out .......the hole is just too huge to fill .

Its looking more and more like crowder is the MVP of the team

Team lacks the extra extra gear since his injury

Crowder is really valuable, but the thing people are overlooking is the depth at his position.  The only wings we have are Crowder and Turner so of course his injury is going to hurt even more.

I can't believe no one's said it yet:

It's CBS.

Imagine if he got 2 T's early and was ejected. Sounds like a sure loss to me.

Not saying we would've won these last two games but Crowder was missed against PG and Durant. Nevermind the offense he produces.

Smart did good on both but he can only replicate Crowder's offense once every few weeks.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Agree or disagree?

http://www.csnne.com/boston-celtics/chris-mannix-scouts-say-jae-crowder-is-most-valuable-celtic

A lot of people point to the IT acquisition but it was the Crowder acquisition that turned the team around last year.  They started winning before IT got here and, while IT was out hurt, they did OK without him.

That's not a knock on IT...he is a huge part of this team, easily the best offensive player.  But Crowder is the glue.  He does everything.  One would hope that Smart can be that too some day but Smart is not even an average shooter.

After the last two games, it would seem JC is our toughness and maybe MVP in that regard.

Yeah, just like how KG was our most valuable Celtic even though Rondo and Paul were better players later on.

Just a result of backup SF/small PF being our largest weakness, and not having Jerebko only makes it worse.

Coincidentally backup PG also happens to be our strongest position, as Smart and Turner are 2 of our top 5 players.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Celtics didn't lose too badly to CHI when BS missed that game.

I kinda disagree with this. IMO Smart is a guard but I would not call him a PG or a ballhanlder.

As for Turner, he can bring the ball down the court but he is more of a point forward than anything else.

Moreover, neither of them can be effective on the PnR as their perimeter shooting is bad.

Again IMO our sole backup PG is Rozier.

Regardless of semantics, one could easily argue AB/Smart/Crowder on the perimeter is better than IT/AB/Smart.

The perimeter shooting is actually better, the defense is ENORMOUSLY better, and if you want to accept the small downgrade in shooting from Smart to Turner, you have an amazing pick and roll player, who's almost in the same ballpark as Isaiah (and if you think AB/Smart/Crowder can't be effective in the pick and roll, you don't give them enough credit).

Against a large/premier SF like Durant and George, it's pretty much a landslide victory.

I'd give it to IT by half a nose. JC does have that he plays both ways and he is an inspiration. I think both these players have been emblematic of what DA and CBS have been building at the Celtics. I just think if I was trading players to improve the team, while I would like to keep both, I would want another scorer to add to IT - not replace him. IT will do a lot to attract star players. Crowder can help here too but not to the same extent. Maybe as a trade piece, this does make Crowder the most valuable as IT is less likely to be traded IMO.

I think these are the two guys who, even with the Celtic's depth, it would be tough to cover for in big games. The team has covered well for Smart and KO but have struggled to cover for Crowder (admittedly against good opposition). Hopefully both are fit at finals time.
