I think Max has a point though. It is how it fits in ways and not that simple. Even Ainge knows this. We need stars but it's not as simple as saying we are going trade this guy for that guy. Ainge has said that himself. He made that quote about Kobe Bryant when he became GM. To fans it's that way. We just trade this guy and get so and so. But it's not that simple.
Ainge has also said he would have taken Tim Duncan over Kobe Bryant. When he became gm he has that quote where he said to fans it's like I'm going to go out there and trade this guy and that g uy for Kobe Bryant and it doesn't work that way.
Ainge does not go with trends or what's popular. He would have taken Durant over Oden. He liked Stevens over Krysinski. Etc, etc.. He likes the underdog himself.
When fans were clamoring to trade Pierce, he hired Doc Rivers and kept Pierce and built around him. Doc is still underrated by fans. Al Jefferson was a fan favorite. Perk was the underdog. He put pieces around those guys and traded for KG and Ray. He went with Rondo, Pierce, Baby, Tony Allen, Powe etc. A lot of these guys were criticized heavily by fans. I listened to it. Bradley was the same thing. So is Sully. Sully was a fan favorite. I didn't really see it at the time where KO got criticized and Sully got a free pass. Sully Gets a lot of criticism now and not really deservably so imo. He's played well this year.
Fans were clammoring for Embiid, Wiggins etc. He drafted Smart and stayed put and felt that draft was overrated. He was trying to get up and get either Okafor or Winslow the next draft I feel though.
