ET has ice water in his veins and he is a SCORER. Is he a marksman? No....but....he can put the ball in the basket, especially down the stretch. You can't teach that.
Many people hated on the guy before he even played a game for us. Called him a malcontent, a selfish player, a locker-room problem.....before he even played a game for us. And a lot of that stemmed from his stint at Indiana, where the deck was stacked against him from the get go.
First, he replaced Granger, the vet locker-room glue guy and mentor to Paul George and to a lesser extent Sir Lance. The team didn't like that. Then, he was competing for time with Sir Lance whom Vogel deferred to, especially in handling the ball. ET was literally sent to the corner as a spot up shooter!!!!!!! Then came the bloody fistfight in a practice where ET defended a teammate who was being called out by Sir Lance on a personal matter. ET showed honor in this situation, and I admire him for that.
But people labeled him a "malcontent", so not worthy to be a C, like DJ or Charlie Scott, I guess. He wasn't and he isn't.
He wisely stayed at OSU for 3 years, deservedly getting the Wooden Award as the best basketball player in the country in his final year.
ET is worth 8-10 mil/year for 4-5 years to me. He has sneaky, sometimes explosive athleticism but his game isn't dependent on that. I can see him lasting 10 more years in this league, much like Andre Miller (one of my favorite non-Cs).
I hope circumstances let us get our big fish and allow us to sign him too. I would dread him going to the Nets or any of the teams that we are in direct competition with.
