1. Use all the picks. Have to draft 5-6 foreign players (or draft and send away)
2. Trade some picks for future picks
3. Sell some picks for cash
4.  Keep as many picks as possible and don't pickup team options on (combination) amir, jerebko, trade sully, Zeller rights, don't resign Turner?

This is going to be a crazy night for Danny and staff. You almost have to hire two dedicated managers to try to manage the fury of activity

The hope is that we can package multiple picks for a few top picks or a few top level players. The fear is nobody bites

It's about time an NBA GM has some real work to do. NFL GMs have to deal with replacing 20+ players EVERY year.  Given the size of an NBA roster, the NBA GM has the easiest job to do.

With the 3 mid to late second round picks do the Marcus Thornton route. Send overseas, with an option to come back to the Maine Red Claws later on with the caveat they sign a D league contract so they don't count against roster space.  Those picks don't matter a whole lot anyway as the success rate is very low.

There a ton of international prospects this year.  With the remaining 3 firsts and 2 high seconds we can probably find at least 2 euros that will stay overseas we can stash away.

That leaves say 3 other picks.  Maybe we use 2 of those picks to trade up for a higher pick, trade out for a future pick, trade a pick for a veteran.

That would be my plan to get down to 2 or 3 rookies tops for next years team without a huge trade.

Lots and lots of draft and stash. And I am not optimistic on his making a big deal if we aren't in the top 2. It's not as if the 29 other teams don't know that the Celtics have to get rid of picks in what is being regarded as a weak draft. No fireworks. Maybe a few of those little sparklers.

No question we are in a bind with all those picks. The Nets pick is a no brainer but after that we need to unload those picks. This team does not need 3 rookies, stashing some over seas would be the only thing we could do. I mean we got 4 young guys now that can't get on the floor so next year half the team wont get any PT.

Would they waive or trade Young for a bag of balls? Does this kid have any future? Next year will be his third year so I imagine they will see if he comes to camp ready to be a player or not?

I think if you don't get a deal done then you go for small move ups target your player.
Say picks are 4, 19, 24, 31, 35, 52, 55, 57.
Package 24, 35 and 57 for the 20 pick to have back to back picks.
4, 19, 20, 31, 52, 55
Package 31, 52, 55 for 29
4, 19, 20, 29
Package 19 and 29 for 14.

You end up with just 3 picks at 4, 14, and 20
Brown, Lab, Zimmerman

Or trade 19 and 24 for 1sts next season. Keep all the 2nds and draft stash players and Euros.

wow, some of you guys really had some deep thought into this.

If we get one of the top 2 picks, I don't even think Danny really cares much what happens next. Probably pops open the champagne and lets the assistant worry about the rest.  Maybe even donates a 2nd to the 76ers

imo if any team gets the 1st two picks, they will just put their phones on silent until draft night.  I mean unless it's a big time calibre player, they are not trading the pick

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think Danny finally forces a deal even if it is a massive overpay. I think we can expect to see the BKN pick traded along with Smart of AB and a couple of the young guys (Young, Rozier, Hunter) for an upgrade, but not necessarily the upgrade we are all looking for. Love and Butler look like the most promising opportunities. Hopefully we can also make some kind of a splash in FA.

If no deals are made, I won't be heartbroken about the latter three 2nds going to waste.

I think Mickey can slowly move into the rotation especially if 1 of Johnson, Zeller, or Sully are gone as a 4th/5th big.  Maybe give Young a shot a Jonas's minutes if he is gone.  Have Hunter/Rozier continue to work and be ready for any injuries to happen to Smart, Thomas, Bradley, even Turner and Crowder.  I can see a situation with no big moves they get more playing time next year.  No need to rush, they are all still very young.

If DA can't make a trade on draft night, the play has to be to target draft and stash guys, and failing that, go for guys who might be able to make a more immediate impact.

Then the off-season becomes a matter of deciding if we're just gonna have half the roster sit out each game, or if we're gonna take a step back in order to develop and integrate the many rookie contract guys on the bench.

Depending on who he likes, it wouldn't shocked me to see Ainge trade down and acquire more picks.

Teams sometimes value 31 more than 29 because of the contractual flexibility. Especially once that Arenas rule was created.
