At #5 I'd take either Brown, Dunn or Bender. Forced to choose between Hield or Murray, I'd take Murray and his superior overall skill level at a younger age. But he does unfortunately remind me of Nik Stauskas, so I'm a bit conflicted. Tough choice.

Murray is a slightly better shooter than Stauskas, bigger frame but otherwise I do see where you're coming from
No lol. When Stauskas came out, he was considered the best shooter in the draft.
Stauskas shot 34.7% from 3 the year he came out, Murray is shooting 41.2% from 3 now.
What are you talking about??? Stauskas shot 44.2% from 3 the year before he came out..

whatever the case is, Murray is a slightly better shooter imo.  Maybe if both have some space, it doesn't matter.  But coming around screens and shooting in one motion , the edge goes to Murray (NBA pro level shot).  At the same age Murray is better than Nik.

Better defender also due to frame, strength

Hield. Hield will "at worst" become a top backup SG and has a good possibility of becoming a starter-quality player.

Not convince by J.Murray. Think there is a good chance he ends up riding the end of someone's bench in the NBA. Undersized, short arms and not athletic enough to overcome that. Very well-skilled but I think he'll be a much better college player than NBA player.

you could be right.  But remember for guards having long arms is not as big of a deal vs SF/PF/C these days

Look at guys like Thompson, Curry, who have short arms too

Murray has a very quick release.  The question is, at the nba level can he run around screens, fade away and shoot the 3 in one motion like he can in college ball.  Can he create some breathing room to be able to launch his shots

And yeah, even though Hield is a senior, he is a finished product in a good way.  Should thrive in the nba.  I think he can play pt like McCollum can at times for the blazers

Also no. As a freshman, Stauskas shot 44% from 3. Better shooter than Murray.

He shot 182 his freshman year. Plenty of shots to show 44% is no fluke, especially since he shot almost the exact same, 44.2%, his next year. Stauskas was clearly a better shooter.

how many points did Stauskus avg in his 1st season?

Murray main speciality is 3 pt shooting but he is overall a dangerous scorer. Already avg 19.9

going back to the topic of 3 pt shooting,  I'm not saying stauskus is bad. Obviously that's not true. But in terms of able to shoot with little space or breathing room available (nba situations), I would say Murray will be better prepared.

His freshman year he averaged 11, but remember, that was a team with Burke, Hardaway, and Mcgary and they made it to the finals. His sophomore year is a more comparable to Murrays, because he averaged 17.5 while shooting 44.2% as the go to guy. Stauskas was a better shooter, but I agree with you, Murray is an overall better scorer. Both are bad defensively.

TP to the OP for actually comparing two players with professional shooting skills that Stevens might actually incorporate into his ball movement offense. Usually most of these predraft debates involve very athletic 2's or 3's that are complete bricklayers.
