Smart's Stat Line for Today's Game

I'm at work so I didn't get to watch this afternoon's game but Marcus Smart's stat line was exactly what I want from him offensively.

5-9 from the floor. 1-2 from 3. 4-5 from the line. 15 points with only 1 turnover.

Obviously I don't expect him to average 55-50-90 for the season but I love the selection. 9 shots with some 3's but not too many 3's and he's getting to the line a lot. How did his game look for those who watched?

He was great. He had a noticeable impact on both ends.

he played well. 3 of those free throws came from a three point attempt, though. just keeping that in mind. but he did play well. took good shots. and one nice putback!

You can see the improvement in his game. Let's not forget this would be his senior year of college so he will continue to grow. I want to continue to see him go to the hoop more.

Didn't watch the game, but rewinding the league pass game, around the 30:00 minute mark, Smart gets an impressive offensive rebound off a Crowder miss, and slams it back in.

Tommy and Scal seemed very proud of his hustle and grit.

I think Smart has a tremendous talent at getting to the rim, and furthermore, he's very aware of where his 4 teammates and the 5 defenders are at all times, which makes him always able to make the correct decision.

The more 3s he shoots, the more he'll be able to get to the rim.

He's basically taking a page from the "Russell Westbrook" book and he's gonna let the shots fly early in his career, and let the percentages work themselves out later (as opposed to the Rondo-style of not shooting at all and letting defenders back off).

Hats why he ll be in the NBA a long time.    He knows how to adjust his game .....even at this early age to help his team win.

Smart is about TEAM first ......if others are scoring well......he needs to rebound , pass and be Mr Husle .

chiming in here with SA. what the stat line did not show was incredible hustle by smart. at the end of the game when the celtics were trying to hold a small lead, there was a rebound that looked like it belonged to the heat.

smart suddenly comes flying in from nowhere, completely envelopes the ball, rebound celtics.

for me right now at least, i could watch him play and enjoy it even with him scoring. but that he put in 15 points tonight is great.

Looking at the game these are the stats I am looking at

Celtics 101 Heat 89

D Wade...about 37% from the field. 3 assists. 4 TOs

Goran Dragic  5 assists. 4 TOs. 4 fouls

Justice Winslow...3 for 10 from the field 2 fouls

Evan Turner  6 for 12. 9 assists and 0 TOs


The Celtics seem to play almost positionless ball. Almost every player on the Celts did something wrong, but two things right.

Jae Crowder for example...0 for 6 from 3 point land, but he also got 5 steals. 2 assists and 0 TOs

Amir Johnson...only played about 19 minutes. 0 assists and 2 TOs. But he got 2 blocks and a steal and 9 rebs

Sully.....he didn't shoot great. He only went 5 for 13 and had 3 fouls in 24 and a half minutes. But he got 12 rebs, 3 blocks, 4 assists only 1 TO and 2 steals.

They all just played an all around game. They played 9 guys and each guy did his part. There are only like 5 teams in the league that can really play consistently as well as us and a few others that give it a go.

Spurs, Cavs, Warriors, Thunder....and after that the Bulls, Raptors and that's just about it.

The Spurs and Bulls are gonna be done soon. Then there will be a very interesting off season. This team should stay the course.

Didn't see the game but a lot of his rebounds this year have looked Dennis Rodman-esque. Smart rips the ball out of the air regardless of who's around him. He just wants it more and that hunger only seems to increase as the game goes on.

Him and Turner saved the game for the Cs when the starting 5 did nothing, save for Sully who was great.

That's my thinking when I defend his shooting.  I think he works hard enough and his shot has enough potential to think he will keep improving.  And you mention Rondo, but even to compare to Avery, instead of taking too many midrange shots he is going right for the three and the rim mostly, which is what I would want from him.

I was at the game (my first this season!), and he was good. He had a number of good moments on D. He did take two step-back 3's--One of them he made, and one he drew a foul. While I like the outcome... that is not the shot that I want to see him take.

Unrelated note, but Whiteside was incredibly dominant in this game. If not for his 8 blocks, it would've been a blowout. Every one of those blocks was on a layup that was probably going in, and he even managed to swat a bunch of them to a teammate. Stevens was doing his best to stretch him out, but without KO it's tough. Before the game I would not have considered offering him the max this summer, but now I'm more open to it.

Smart just knows what he's doing out there on every single possession; he is just so aware. If he can continue to improve his shooting, he will be a special player. I hated losing Rondo, but we look to have another player with a [different] unique set of skills on our hands - he's just fun to watch...especially on D.
