Crowder offensively efficient now.. Can Smart do the same?

Smart's confidence is not there.  When he played with Rozier in the SL he "got it".  Even thought it was only SL

Right now team is over relying on IT. And IT is trying to do everything at times. Smart is just a bystander

Not sure if this is good for smarts progression or he needs to perfect his side role 1st then be able to demand the ball more /more trust in him in crucial moments.

Even in summer league he shot like 35%

At least he looked comfortable. He needs the constant PT and opportunities to be able to improve his game. I think that'll lead to better percentages.

jimmy butler didn't hit his stride on O until he turned 25.

bradley, KO etc needed time to improve. same with smart, he'll be fine.

as noted, gerald wallace also struggled offensively early in his career, but got much better on the bobcats (i said on this forum late last season BTW that crowder would become gerald wallace 2.0, starting to look like i was right!)

You should feel horrible for wanting more from Smart at this point in his career.

If I remember correctly, AB came into the league (like Smart) as a hard nosed on ball defender with a less than desirable offensive game, specifically shooting. While he's now Curry or Ray Allen, I don't cringe when he shoots now. Him and Turner deserve some award for what look like the most difficult shots (shooting quick after screens, spinning fade aways) that manage to go in so often.

I have faith Smart can get there with time and practice just like AB and Crowder have.   

The only difference is that Bradley had a reputation in college as a good shooter. It was a larger mystery why he shot poorly the first year or so (though it probably had to do with not consistent PT, sort of like with Hunter now).

Smart came into the NBA with a reputation as a poor shooter and has lived up to it. Still, as others have pointed out, so did guys like Crowder, Butler, and Wallace, and they figured things out.

I believe Smart can be efficient but it will be another 2 years or a change in offensive philosophy (less 3s).

I agree but it's good to note that Smart is taking a much lower percentage of shots from 3, than he did the year before.

Last year 57% of Smart's shots came from 3, this year it's down to 46% of his shots. I'd still like it to go down even more but at least it's trending in the right direction.

He should be taking the same percentage of 3s as his 3fg%. 31% of his shots should be threes. When he shoots 40% from 3 then let 40% of his shots be 3s. He has to dial it back. Work on getting inside. Become Lowry XL. Stay away from 3s till he gets better at them as Lowry did.

AB was very different. Look at his 3pt% in his second season, the first one where he actually started playing. AB has always been a jump shooter. Look at this:

Nothing like Smart's game, where Smart bulls his way to the rim. AB has always been a pull-up guy, so there is no reason to look at his development as a model for Smart.

I'm not sure how Turner is relevant to shooting as Turner is horrible from deep and should almost never take shots beyond 18 feet. Maybe smart can get Turner's midrange moves, but there is a reason why Turner went #2. There are things he is really good at. It just doesn't lead to him being efficient.
