I think Tanguay is a lot of fun if you accept that he almost never knows what he's talking about and tends to have poor capacity for logic.   I get a kick out of him.  He speculates as if he knows something, but a scratch of the surface always assures that he really knows no more than you or me.  But I do find him entertaining.   The likelihood that Tanguay has deciphered the code and figured out the mystery man is microscopic.

I personally just find it annoying that the Boston media, and those who also dominate it, are a bunch of clowns. This coming from a city that should be Sports City, a very sports knowledgeable and savvy crop of a city. They're ridiculing us.

I mean, if it was simply one idiot, then sure that has it's niche and could be fun, but when you have a full market dominated precisely from hacks like this, then it's much less forgiving.

This. The media here are either frankly, scum and get off on getting on other people, or they are a total joke. Most of the media here doesn't even like basketball or the Celtics too.

This is the thing.  A lot of general New England sports fans only care about the Sox, Bruins, and/or Pats and then they try to jump on the Celtics when they're good or, in the case of hosts, and media they have to be talking basketball.  Anyone on the radio or general "sports journalists" or personalities know nothing about basketball but they use their typical Skip Bayless "here's the facts" delivery.

Tanguay trying to deliver this as news, when even in the piece he says "hey I'm sitting around in the offices and I thought hey Anthony Davis is a guy" (and hilariously he even tries to argue Davis isn't that good and is a disappointment, shows you what he knows) just about sums it up.  The classic "this one guy couldn't carry his team to the Finals???" argument of the simple minded.

Tanguay makes Sherrod look like Bob Ryan.

I guess I like a lot of the sports media in Boston, though I am afraid I don't take sports analysis as seriously as some of you may.

I like Gorman, Heinsohn, Scal, Felger, Merloni, Ordway, D & C (when they talk sports), Holley, Dale, Bertrand, Zolak (football analysis, not on the talk show).  I like many of the fill-in guys (Gasper, Tomasi, Flynn,...) and many of the occasional experts (Bob Ryan, Jackie M, P. King, Chatham....).  Yeah, Blakely isn't very good and Tanguay is a buffoon (though I kinda like the guy), but for the most part I am pretty satisfied with Boston's sports media.

Wow, people are being way too hard on the guy.  Let's break down the evidence:

- Anthony Davis is a player in the NBA.
- Anthony Davis wasn't linked to us in rumors.
- Anthony Davis is a man.
- Anthony Davis may have seen one or both new Sherlock Holmes movies (and therefore is "mysterious").
- "May" is one of the journalistic "weasel words", that can be used for any degree of possibility.
- It's not impossible that Davis was the target.

Therefore it's a completely accurate story.  A lot of you guys are feeling pretty foolish right now I bet.

I just resent dudes who clearly know less about the NBA than I do, even though sports is their job and just my hobby.  I especially resent it when guys like that have this smug air as if they're a knowledgeable insider like Adrian Wojnarowski or something.

Or maybe Gary really is very knowledgeable and just generates bull-crap takes because he knows it'll get him more attention than speaking to what he knows.  I think that'd make me like him even less.

On the Sports Hub, Rich Keefe is one of us. Always seems like he knows his stuff and is able to come up with strong analysis and original takes. He also can tend to meander and just throw out sarcastic quips though especially when he's with Adam Jones.

Personally think the best basketball mind in the Boston sports media is Adam Kaufman. He's a true radio professional with a tight focused broadcast and does a great job with Celtics at 7 on Saturday mornings. I wish he took Adam Jones' spot after Damon Amendolara went national but I don't think he was trying for the night show since he's got a cushy gig on WBZ AM and can fill in on the Sports Hub when other spots open up.

I agree. I think Tanguay was actually the most reasonable voice on TV or radio during the trade talks. When everyone was arguing the Celtics needed to trade the picks and players for any star, Tanguay was preaching patience and laughing at the idea of throwing away the cap space, young talent and future draft picks for a star who is not a top 5 player in the league.

Tanguay was pretty consistent saying he would only trade for a top 5 player or a young up and coming player. Griffin and Love were already hitting their peak and he argued if we stripped our team and the draft picks that we wouldn't be able to be better than the Clippers. So why mortgage everything to not be good enough to win it.

People hate him because he says the opposite of what people want to hear but what he says is usually pretty accurate.

May is also a month in the calendar year. The reporter might even be talking about possible trade in the offseason.
