I think trading Horford for the Brooklyn pick is ridiculous, when if he's interested we could get him in the offseason without giving up assets.

I'd trade the Brooklyn pick for Love though
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Thank God, I'm not the type to over value draft picks but the Nets picks are very special and I hope we keep all of them. It's been 30 years (1986) (Len Bias) since they've had a chance like this.

My understanding is that by trading for a rental like Horford is that you get his Bird rights, which make it easier for the Celts to keep him.   Would you trade Poeltl for Horford?  Or Dunn?  I would.

I'm really on the fence on this one.  What we're talking about is not doing the trade because there's a 25% chance that we might get Simmons or Ingram.  If you could top 2 protect the pick, I'd trade it.

Why should we move the Brooklyn pick for Horford considering that he's going to be a FA this summer.

It wouldn't be unheard of. The Cavs moved Wiggins for free agent to be Kevin Love.

In any trade like that, it all depends upon what the player's agent is saying behind closed doors.

True, but the Cavs didn't have cap room to just sign Love in the offseason and still keep Wiggins right?

If we did this it would be more like when the Knicks gave up Mozgov, Gallo, Wilson Chandler, and a 1st for Melo.  Not as dumb though, because Melo was always gonna end up in NY no matter what.

What do you think Melo's agent was saying?  Yeah, we'll definitely resign with you, but when it comes to signing as a FA, we're not sure?  Or did the Knicks really think Melo was going to lead them from a bad team to a championship in that same season?

Regardless, Love was a top 5 player/MVP contender averaging 26.1, 12.5, and 4.4 while making 2.5 3s a game at 38% when the Cavs gave up Wiggins.

If the lottery balls go our way and we get Simmons or Ingram, I'd hope to get an MVP contender in exchange rather than a guy like Horford.

Why wouldn't we roll the dice and see where our pick is before we trade it?  We're basically playing with house money.  Worst case scenario we get like the 6th pick and end up with another Marcus Smart caliber player?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If I were the Celtics, and I get Horford, then I would also try to trade for Love. Otherwise, I don't see the point in wasting assets for a rental.

That's a fairly hopeful "worst case scenario", isn't it?

I probably wouldn't deal the Brooklyn pick for Horford, either, but there's a lot more risk with that pick than us ending up with the next Marcus Smart.

Doesn't any trade for Horford automatically move us to "win now" mode? Assuming he signs a max contract, he'll be, what, 34 at the end of it? Is a Celtics team with Horford enough to bring over one more max free agent? A candid look at the situation would likely indicate not. And if we can't get a superstar with a second max offer, we're still better than we are this year, but a 6'10 guy is going to age quickly.

Oops, I didn't mean Marcus Smart was the worst case scenario, I meant falling all the way down to the 6th pick is the worst scenario (which could yield a guy like Smart).

Certainly it could also yield a player who never plays a minute in the NBA, I'm not that naive.

Or, the 6th pick could be the next Pierce/Dirk/Kobe.

And yes, I understand the "mathematical" worst case scenario is that the Nets could still make the playoffs.

Here's an interesting spin, who would you trade that pick for, that might be available?  Cousins is on my short list, but can't really think of others.

Woj is money, but I don't buy this.  Boston would give up the pick for Kevin Love.  Probably more than the pick, actually.

They wouldn't trade the pick for HOrford, because Horford can bail on them this Summer.  But Love... for sure.

Love is somewhat surprising, Horford is not.

Frankly, I don't see any urgency to trade anything or anyone until prior to the draft. Based on recent history, draft picks seem to increase in value as the draft approaches, plus we'll know what the pick is. I get the argument to "sell high", but I don't think the recent play is that much of a fluke. I think our players will continue to garner attention around the league. Patience, patience.

In any trade like that, it all depends upon what the player's agent is saying behind closed doors.

Kevin McHale lost a first round pick for working out a deal behind closed doors (Joe Smith?). Not sure Danny wants to play with that kind of fire.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
To be clear he says we wouldn't move the pick for Horford.
He says we would possibly move the pick for Love but he thinks Love isn't available.

Fully agree.
I said in post above that Woj said Love isn't available, not that we wouldn't trade the pick for him.
