Quote
The Houston Rockets have started contacting teams about trading eight-time All-Star Dwight Howard, league sources told The Vertical.

Howard, 30, plans to exercise an opt-out in his contract this summer to become an unrestricted free agent, and uncertainty surrounding the commitment both sides are willing to make has pushed Houston general manager Daryl Morey toward seeking potential trades on the market, league sources said.

The NBA’s trade deadline is Feb. 18.

The Rockets are working with Howard’s agent, Dan Fegan, on possible destinations, league executives told The Vertical.

Would you trade for Howard if it was the same package Mannix mentioned for Horford?

(let's say Horford is no longer available)

Lee, our pick, and the 2 latter seconds would make a lot of sense.

Hawks would be wise to move HOrford, because I can't imagine that guy sticking around there.

So this is pretty good news given that as much as I hate Howard, I have to acknowledge they would make a similar impact on teams and should have similar trade value.   Having two available at the same time might drive down the price a bit.  "Cool, so you don't want Sully and two 1sts for the guy who is leaving you this Summer?... k... let's see if Houston wants it."

absolutely , but I re-listened and Mannix said he would give up the 2018 brk pick for Horford.

I wouldnt for Horford , but would give up that 2018 nets pick for Howard.

Howard can still dominate on defense and the boards.

If they are outwardly contacting teams I bet the price for him has diminished.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I wouldn't give up that pick for either. That said, Howard is more likely to bolt Boston than Hoford will.  Howard would be a good rental though. We definitely win vs the Bucks with his ability to limit post players.

Doesn't make sense for Atlanta who would move Horford to avoid having him leave for nothing in the offseason.

Maybe the other way around.  Horford to the Rockets and Howard to the Celtics.

But then in that case, who do the celtics rather, Horford or Howard?

Disagree , Howard can still be a defensive player of the year candidate IMO.

I think our collective hate of Howard often overshadows the reality of his talent.  I can't stand that guy... but he still might be better than Horford at this point.

Horford has to be a better fit offensively.  He hits free throws and has some 3-point range.  I imagine Boston would rather have him.

Also, I think with Howard there's a bigger risk of him bailing.  He's a little twinkledink who will probably try signing with Orlando this summer or something.   Horford seems like he has more character, more interest in winning, and probably far more leadership qualities.
