That'd be a tough one. I hate Dwight Howard's antics with a passion (although I'm sure he's perhaps a nice guy). I guess that makes him the Hanley Ramirez of basketball in my eyes.

But I digress. If the price is right, you have to pull the trigger: so something like Lee, Sullinger, and a combination of picks. Mike Gorman mentioned on SportsHub today that he thinks giving up one of the future Nets picks would be reasonable. I'd much rather give up something from this year, a non-lottery first plus a host of seconds. Doubt it would be enough, but on the other hand, there isn't all that much of a market for Howard.

Just rubs me the wrong way. Still, if it's not much we will have to do it. Yuck.

I've been on the Howard bandwagon for a while even though not a big fan of his past antics.  However maybe he has matured somewhat at around age 30, and should still be very effective for the next few years.

He is the kind of under the radar star we can target without sacrificing the BKN pick, and improve our playoff chances.

Another idea I thought of starting a new thread is for Kenneth Faried.  Gallo doesn't seem to be on the table but not sure about Faried.  Denver is kind of stuck in the middle moreso than us.   Faried has 4 years of control left, and is still only 26.  Maybe something like Lee, Sully, Hunter, a pick or 2 non lottery for Faried and maybe someone like Foye for added veteran depth at guard.  Sully could walk at the end of the year but has restricted status, so they would have a good chance keeping him long term.

Not a Howard fan by any stretch of the imagination.

However if he can be had for a reasonable/cheap deal then I say go for it.

Example

Lee, Sully 2016 Mavs or Cs 1st and 2 2nds

or

Lee, Amir 2016 Mavs or Cs 1st and 2 2nds

I wouldn't even be apposed to giving up the Cs and Mavs 2016 first if an additional player was added from the rockets (Dekker or Jones).

Now Im not sure Howard is a long term fit but for this season he would be an improvement. This would also push the Cs further to the top of the east and help with future FA recruitment.

Giving them Amir with Lee makes them take on $5 million of extra salary this season. I'd not be opposed to shipping out Amir AND Sullinger instead, but then you have to dock some of the picks from the deal.

Pnr with IT4. O.O

Space for AB, Jae and IT4 so they can get off cleaner shots/3s.

Nah this ain't happening anyway because we heard about it.. ;D

Unless the price is low I'd make Dwight opt in before acquiring him.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If we can trade Lee, Sully and a late 1st for him why not. He's a 14 and 11 guy who controls the paint on defense and has a 21PER. He doesn't spread the floor but for cheap he is the exact type of center we need in the middle for this team. He's the superstar name that we'd be looking for and it wouldn't take a lot to get him.

I think one first is worth the gamble.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

Since as many have mentioned it's pretty much a guarantee that he will opt out, I dont think he is worth a 3 month rental. We aren't winning it this year with him so what does it really get us? A possible trip to the ECF followed by a loss? I don't see us beating Toronto even with him to get to Cleveland anyway.

How about this thought:
Sully/Lee and our 2016 Pick for Howard

We then flip Crowder/AB/Amir and the 2016 Brooklyn first for Pierce and Blake

Starting 5:
IT
Marcus
Pierce
Griffin
Howard

I know it would never happen but that is a team that can take us to the finals this year, and having the Truth back would be pretty sweet..

Then see Howard opt out & end up getting nothing in return when he signs elsewhere.  Bold strategy, Cotton.

On the other, he can't shoot, so how does he fit in our current system?

Neither can Sully, but he's playing well. Neither can Smart, but he's playing well. Neither can Turner, but he's playing well. Neither can Amir, but he's playing well.

Glad I'm not Danny. This is a tough one.
I actually think this is an easy one. Low risk, high reward move. Cs desperately need a consolidation trade, and Howard will not command a very high value considering he's a rental.

The Cs can't take 8 guys in this summer's draft. They can't. They need to flip a couple of picks.
Exactly. I also think Danny Drives up noise like Holford and teague to get GM's talking more. If we can add some other pieces like Danilo Gallinari to Howard and our awesome core maybe we can make to the ECF. You never know then in one series. As long as we keep the three nets picks we can rebuild easily. We have Young, Rozier, Mickey and Hunter in the wings already. Plus We look enticing to other FA if we go deeper in playoffs.

This (bolding mine). If we heard this rumor, it's because Danny wants us to hear it.

Not necessarily, the other side often leaks when Danny doesn't.  Like the Doc-to-Clippers fiasco, they were leaking like crazy.  In this case Houston might want to drive up the price on Howard by getting it out there that they're discussing moving him.  I agree in general about Danny sometimes getting info out to gin up trade talk, though.

My best offer for Howard would be

Lee
Sully
Rozier
Dal 1st rd
Bos 1st rd 2016

*I might give up Bradley instead of Rozier if it gets the deal done

if you give up Bradley , leaves us with

PG: IT              / Rozier
SG: Smart       / Turner
SF: Crowder    / Jerebko
PF: KO            / Amir
 C: Dwight       / Zeller

plus we can play crowder and Jonas at pf to stetch the floor when needed .

Still have all our Brk picks and a bunch of cap space next year.

Howard for a Brooklyn pick? No.
Howard for Smart? No.
Howard for Crowder? No.
Howard for IT? No.
