Lowry is the better player hands down . Ideally , Thomas is a 6th man on a contender.

Lowry is a better player, but it is because of the defensive side of things. They are comparable offensively.

Seriously? What does IT have to do to earn respect. They are a top 4 seed in the East. I understand saying, "We need another All-star or two. IT cannot do it himself" or even "IT can be the alpha dog. We still need an alpha dog," but sixth man? What's a guy gotta do?

You guys are crazy, give me IT any day.  If you're looking at their per 36, IT has 3.4 more points, 1.2 more assists, and 1.4 more FT/FTA.

But now you've also got to look at how much more help Lowry has.

He's not even the best player on his team.

IT on the other hand, has a team that's horrible on offense whenever he's not in the game.

Lowry is a sidekick, teams aren't preparing for Lowry anyway near as much as they're preparing for IT.

Scola is an upgrade on Sully
Valanciunas is a HUGE upgrade on Johnson
The gap between DeRozan and Bradley is so large it can't even be described with words
Carroll is close to a wash with Crowder

Joseph, Ross, and James Johnson off the bench are way better than Smart/Turner/Jerebko respectively. Biyombo and Patterson are both presences.

Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

You take Lowry hands down and it isn't even close.

Lowry is playing like a top 10 NBA player this season.

He is top 6 in real plus minus with the likes of Curry, Westbrook, Kawhi, Draymond, and James (in that order) in front of him. (IT is 60th).

In his WINS stat he is top five with the same group and being ahead of James and they are the only six in the league that sit in the double digits section by a full 2 wins which is pretty significant.
(More than double the points of IT who is 33rd).

IT is great and he has been doing great things for us. He isn't a true quarterback. His scoring stats are very good this year and he is passing the ball but he isn't a great leader to start the offense, he is better off the ball as a 6th man which is why we see Turner bring the ball up when they are of the floor together most of the time.

They are both having All star seasons ahead of their usual expectations. But Lowry is on a complete different level this year and the fact that he is one of the leagues top defensive point guards puts him that far ahead of IT as well.

I hate this "contender" nonsense more than anything.  Who made this term up and where is the definition?

McHale in 1984, and Kobe in 1998.  Those are the only 2 I got.

Manu made it twice, but he was a full-time starter both of those seasons.

Lowry and it's a no-brainier. He's been playing terrific this year.

So has Thomas and people still think he's a sixth on a contender!  ::)
