It's definitely an exciting time to be a Celtic fan. Ever since the Nets lost two of their best players to injuries started the season, it's looked increasingly likely that we'll end up getting a top 10 top 3 pick from them.
A solid playoff participant, A+ front office and coach, an all-star point guard, Smart slowly progressing, some solid role players looking like legit long-term starters (crowder and bradley), some decent signs from a couple other young guys (Olynyk), an increasingly likely top 10 pick, and cap space this Summer make this a very fun time to be following this team.
If everything goes right, we'll have a 50 win team, make a nice playoff run, draft Ben Simmons, and sign Durant and Horford in free agency.
That's better. Thought I'd get in there before world war 3 erupts in this mucho positivo thread.
TP KG living legend for the thread.
No point in editing it. Ever since the Nets lost Hollis-Jefferson and Jarrett Jack (two of their top 4 players), it's become increasingly likely that we'll get a lottery pick from them. We still have half a season to play and had those two not been injured, they'd probably be in a better position to win some games. My hope is that we get through the trade deadline without them making any significant improvements.
As this deadline approaches, having that Brooklyn pick in the bottom 3 is really really nice. Gives us some opportunities. Zach Lowe recently suggested we offer it for Gordon Hayward. We wouldn't have an opportunity like that is Brooklyn wasn't losing as much as they are. Pretty perfect start to the season for us.
Careful there before you spin yourself into orbit.
you hope they don't trade at deadline for significant improvement? What are they gonna trade with, their teeth?
Pretty perfect start to the season? Dude, it is mid-season. Just admit you were/are wrong.
There's nothing to admit I was wrong about. Injuries have impacted their season. It's great for us.
As for what they can trade... They could utilize Joe Johnson's contract by itself to take on some overpaid long term talent that can help them win in the short term. For instance, I heard it suggested they could move Johnson and get tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson if they are willing to take on asik's money... it's been suggested they can get dwight Howard for Johnson's expiring. There's moves out there they will have an opportunity to make at the deadline. Hopefully they don't make them or we cash in on the pick so it doesn't matter. But the fact that we will have what appears to be a top 5 pick as the trade deadline approaches is pretty awesome.
you will just cling to any illusion that helps you believe you were right. Nets were sucking pre-injuries. you can't sit here and say they were good until 2 guys who'd be borderline rotation players (if that) on a decent team went down with injuries. they've stunk right along.
they haven't even lost Brook yet to injury as many have anticipated to provide an excuse for why they suck. he's played right along and they stink.
you can't spin this to say you're right about the Nets being good enough to be a playoff team (your preseason prediction) but now that Jack and RJH are out, well, that exempts me from my prediction.
I know for a FACT that I was 100% right about Brooklyn.
Had they stayed healthy, they would have been fine.
Listen... you, Ogaju, Edward and chambers can go push your Politics elsewhere. There's no place for it in the Celtics Talk thread focused on positivity. Go peddle your backwards multiverse-denier agenda on some truthseeker forum.
I have PERSONALLY astral projected into the alt-dimension where Hollis-Jefferson and Jarret Jack stayed healthy. In that dimension, The Nets are inexplicably in the midst of a 28 game win streak and have a record of 33-14. They are the surprise of the season and are currently sitting in 2nd place in the East... well on their way to a 4th straight playoff appearance. Brook Lopez was also just rightfully named to the all-star team and Hollis-Jefferson is scheduled to start in the Rising Stars game. Thanks to the Brooklyn surge, the Boston pick looks like a lock to fall outside of the lotto. Also, in that particular dimension, for some bizarre reason they spell the popular children's book series as "Berenst
Ein Bears" instead of "Berenst
Ain Bears". It's really weird, but part of me thinks the "Berenst
Ein" verse might be Earth 1 while this "Berenst
Ain" verse might be Earth 2. Consider yourself lucky we're currently stuck in Earth 2 where the Nets have been riddled with injuries, Boston is increasingly likely to get a top 10 pick from them, and this thread has a reason to exist.
