It's definitely an exciting time to be a Celtic fan.  Ever since the Nets lost two of their best players to injuries started the season, it's looked increasingly likely that we'll end up getting a top 10 top 3 pick from them.

A solid playoff participant, A+ front office and coach, an all-star point guard, Smart slowly progressing, some solid role players looking like legit long-term starters (crowder and bradley), some decent signs from a couple other young guys (Olynyk), an increasingly likely top 10 pick, and cap space this Summer make this a very fun time to be following this team.

If everything goes right, we'll have a 50 win team, make a nice playoff run, draft Ben Simmons, and sign Durant and Horford in free agency.

That's  better. Thought I'd get in there before world war 3 erupts in this mucho positivo thread.

No point in editing it.  Ever since the Nets lost Hollis-Jefferson and Jarrett Jack (two of their top 4 players), it's become increasingly likely that we'll get a lottery pick from them.  We still have half a season to play and had those two not been injured, they'd probably be in a better position to win some games.  My hope is that we get through the trade deadline without them making any significant improvements.

As this deadline approaches, having that Brooklyn pick in the bottom 3 is really really nice.  Gives us some opportunities.  Zach Lowe recently suggested we offer it for Gordon Hayward.  We wouldn't have an opportunity like that is Brooklyn wasn't losing as much as they are.  Pretty perfect start to the season for us.

I mentioned this in the Nuggets game thread. We have a legitimate shot at both a top 3 seed and top 3 pick in the same year. That is unreal.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

When's the last time that happened?    Pistons winning the title and drafting Darko Millicic #2?

How about before that?  Boston winning the title and drafting Len Bias #2?

For real though... that's pretty awesome to make the playoffs and end up drafting in the lotto.

Careful there before you spin yourself into orbit.

you hope they don't trade at deadline for significant improvement? What are they gonna trade with, their teeth?

Pretty perfect start to the season? Dude, it is mid-season. Just admit you were/are wrong.

I forgot to add that Thomas must me the smallest All Star ever in the Celtics right?

And the injuries to RHJ and especially Jarret Jack were godsends.
I think IT is smallest all-star in NBA history  (tied with Calvin Murphy).

The sad part about it was both times the team that won the championship and drafted number 2 overall got nothing out of their draft picks

I think I can live should we get nothing out of our top 3 pickthis yr so long as we spank the Warriors in the Finals...Hey, I can dream you know.

P.S. because if we do end upwith number 3 pick overall I trust DA and he's got a ton of options of trading it..something that the Pistons of 2004 should have done.

And only 5 games out of 2nd place (TOR) and .5 games from leapfrogging to 3rd place.

Got an All-Star, and a candidate for MIP (Jae).

KO playing well, Jared grabbing boards, Marcus playing D...

CBS has the team hitting on all cylinders right now.

After a blow out .....of Magic.......next three games are winnable .  But a blowout in a couple days down in Orlando could start a mini losing streak .

To me a test of Maturity of the team.....can they go down to Orlando where the Magic will be mad and wanting to end their losing streak  to clobber the Celtics .  Celtics at least keep the game very close if not win .

Next three games given the order and setup could go very poorly .

Very curious to see the outcome .....how the confidence level is maintained.

Hate to be the Debbie Downer in the crowd, but this season has become very boring for me.  The only anticipation for me is in the coming draft--looking at a top three!
Our team has basically become a nine man team, with the three rooks,JY, DLee, and TZ remaining part of the team only a technicality.  Was hoping the rooks were gonna get a real chance to be part of the move to the future, but it has been thrown out for the drive to again be a mediocre playoff team that once again gets the boot in the first round.  As the Cavs twiddle their thumbs waiting for the playoffs, anyone who gives the C's a chance against Irving, Love, and LBJ is dreaming.
So after one year of meh draft, deals, and Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ency, we're right back where we were.  Still no great young player, no superstar, and the same owners, GM's etc. who are still unwilling to deal with DA.
Maybe, finally, the draft juju will go our way and we'll end up with BSimmons! Hoping!  Until then it's business as usual--middle of the pack, grind it out for early elimination in the playoffs.  Don't find that as awesome as most.

It was likely that the pick was going to be in the lotto while those two were playing as well. That they might've had a slightly higher chance of reaching the playoffs with them, that's another issue. But the truth of the matter is that they were ALWAYS likely to be a lotto team, and always likely that it would be among the top picks. They've been among the bottom feeders from the get-go, injuries or no injuries.

Small distinction, but an important one to point out I think.

There's nothing to admit I was wrong about.  Injuries have impacted their season. It's great for us.

As for what they can trade... They could utilize Joe Johnson's contract by itself to take on some overpaid long term talent that can help them win in the short term.  For instance, I heard it suggested they could move Johnson and get tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson if they are willing to take on asik's money...  it's been suggested they can get dwight Howard for Johnson's expiring.  There's moves out there they will have an opportunity to make at the deadline. Hopefully they don't make them or we cash in on the pick so it doesn't matter.   But the fact that we will have what appears to be a top 5 pick as the trade deadline approaches is pretty awesome.
