Pelton quotes:

"The most obvious hole in the Timberwolves' starting five of the future is a power forward who can stretch the floor next to Karl-Anthony Towns."

"Sullinger is another impending free agent who could fit the Timberwolves' desire to play big while also providing needed floor spacing."

He's clearly never really watched Sullinger play basketball.

Do you want to get rid of him or not?

I would trade Sully for any one of Lavine or Dieng in a heartbeat.

To be honest, I'd even trade him for Kevin Martin.  We are pretty deperate for a backup wing, a bench scorer and an extra outside shooter.  Martin could solve all three needs.

Turner+Sully for Martin works in the trade machine.  They'd probably like to get rid of Martin, so we might even be able to squeeze a pick out of it.

We also have an incentive to make the Timberwolves better - it increases the chance of us getting their pick.

I think Martin would fit nicely alongside either Smart or Bradley on the second unit

Sully is their Man, just give us Deing, or maybe even Shabaz.

Shabazz is literally the WORST defensive SF in the entire NBA!!!!

Sully could not land us Levine without other assets.   You think the other team wants a guy who has trouble with weight and is a suspect shooter.   I bet they would want KO at the least.

I don't know about that.  I am SURE that Minny is very aware that LaVine is the 80th WORST defender at the SG spot in the entire league out of 83 shooting guards!!!

I'm not sure you get either Lavine or Bazz for who they are, but who they could be. Who they are is young players putting up decent stats that are not benefiting their team, which is reflected in the RPM. Who they could be is young players who put up good stats that benefit their team, and the RPM would eventually come around to that.

I would also really like a Sully for Dieng if that could be done.

On Lavine, I am not the biggest guy on an athletic players necessarily but Lavine is very impressive in that area and has shown some skill.  He is shooting poorly this year and isn't a defender yet.  But he is a gamble I like.  I think we would be a good fit for him because we wouldn't ask him to do too much. I think he has a ton of potential as a player who could thrive in transition and we have those opportunities and could use that kind of slashing and creating he could do.

It depends on the price but I think he has a lot of potential as a player.  He has that kind of Russell Westbrook athleticism and if he works at his game like he did he could be great.

Given the fact that we have assets, I would be willing to take gambles on a player like him.  We can give up some of these picks on that kind of deal.  I don't care as much about position as talent and we need to get rid of some players we have now that aren't key.  Like we can lose Turner with a combination of Lavine and Smart filling that creator role.  We would play smaller some but that seems to fit Stevens.  I think players who run hard up and down the floor seem to do well for us and Lavine can do that.

Again I think the Timberwolves won't trade him but I think he is a an interesting player.

If they want Sully I agree Wiggins or nothing lol jk I'd take a top 10 protected first next year and a exemption for Sully. Or better Lee and Sully for a exemption and lottery protected 1st lol

I think we overrate Dieng a bit around here. He'd basically just add to our pile of middling bigs, and I don't see him as much of an upgrade over Sullinger other than bringing a skill we don't have in our toolbox otherwise (shot blocking).

It's also worth noting that Dieng came into the NBA extremely late. He's 26, which makes him three years(!) older than Sullinger.

I find Muhammad much more intriguing.

I disagree though just because the fit is better than these other guys.  We could benefit from a longer, defensive Center next to Olynyk who should be playing more I think.

I mean really, the team is playing small often.  If you were alternating between him, Amir, and Olynyk for times I would like that more than Sully out there at C.  Kevin O'Connor had a piece today about how so far when Stevens has gone small with Sully at C the team has been playing much worse than with others.  He is a player who has merits but I just don't think he fits the system that well and he doesn't have that much potential to get better, I don't think.  He hasn't shown any progress in getting in shape.

So I would say because the team could be playing smaller, we could use Centers more than PFs.  We would be playing Crowder or Jerebko at PF a lot.
