The Lakers would probably want a pick, but I would ONLY throw in a second rounder.

I know Roy is not the same player he was three or four years ago, but he is still a very solid defender!!!  (OK, I checked on this, and Roy is 26th in defensive RPM:-(((  Wow!!!  I am sure a lot of that is that LA simply does NOT play defense this year as they are COMMITTED to getting a top 3 pick and NOT having to send that pick to Philly.

Lee simply is NOT in our rotation now!!!!

Why not for us?

Perhaps Roy could re-ignite his career with his in a playoff stretch and consider re-signing with us for a very reasonable amount???

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I just posted the same thing in The Deadline Thread. Why not for this year. Maybe CBS can get him right.
"People look at players, watch them dribble between their legs and they say, 'There's a superstar.'  Well John Havlicek is a superstar, and most of the others are figments of writers' imagination."

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Hibbert had the perfect storm working for him in Indy - excellent, hustling team where he just needed to muddy the waters down low on defense and was available up high for easy lay-ins on offense. I don't know if I have ever seen a slower NBA player and his interest level appears to be in the toilet.

For David Lee, though - why not?

I agree that it's a "why not" type of move. Even for both teams, although I can't think of a FA Center this summer who the Lakers could go after with all that money. Similarly, I know they're not drafting one. "Everyone will have cap room" is an important thought to note, but with this move the Lakers would have at least $40mil to throw around without Bryant and Hibbert.

Meanwhile, Lee is out of the rotation and not squeaking in anytime soon if you ask me. Perhaps Hibbert would hurt the other players on the floor just as much as Lee but it's a "why not" after all. Try it and if it doesn't work let him walk at the end of the year, least we got to take a couple months look at him.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!

Yes, absolutely.

I was excited to have Lee, but he has been a disappointment. He's not playing so why not? We address the log jam at PF and we get a rim protector for someone we are not using.

Does Hibbert fit Boston's defense?

Celtics rely on quickness and mobility from big men to be active help defenders away from the basket to deny penetration. To play aggressive help defense to allow C's perimeter defenders to harass and gamble ... to force turnovers at a high clip.

Hibbert works best when he is allowed to hang back in the paint and avoid help defense away from the basket while playing next to sound positional defenders who can funnel dribble penetration towards him allowing him to utilize his verticality close to the basket.

Seems like two opposites ... what has been so successful for Boston this season defensively versus what Hibbert needs the defense to change to in order for him to be successful.

I think this is a case of great talent upgrade but lousy fit where Boston would end up getting a lot less out of Hibbert's talent than they could get (like Lakers are) + chemistry and balance of Celtics team will be hurt in the process.

First, we have a glut of PF's, not true centers!!  Zeller is our ONLY 7 footer on the roster and he has played a TOTAL of 220 minutes this year!!  OK, Kelly is alleged 7' but plays like a 6'8" player due to his short arms and lack of vertical!!  We could use a shotblocking center!!!  I have NEVER seen a center practice the law of verticality like Roy did 2 to 3 years ago in the playoffs!!  He is a master at this!!  Players would be very leery of driving the lane on us while he was in the game!!!

What do we have to lose?  David Lee:-))))

Great trade, just for the fact that it will get Lee off if this team. I'll trade Lee for Baron Davis at this point.

If it's best you can get for Lee at deadline and they take C's lowest second then I'm okay with it. Wouldn't do before deadline or for more.

I like the Portland idea much better if it can be managed... get a trade exception for our troubles (and possibly a 2nd rounder) and then replace the empty roster spot with whatever is around.

The TPE can be used at draft night.

I like it as a last minute deadline, there are no other moves out there to help Celtics that needs Lee.

Lee is already a terrible fit for what the Celtics do.  Maybe Hibbert could add something down the stretch down low, even in just limited minutes.

No draft picks.
